NEW YORK – Denver and Providence remain undefeated through two weeks of BIG EAST play at 2-0. No. 5 Denver picked up a 16-11 win over No. 18 Villanova at home; while Providence defeated Georgetown, 13-7. Marquette returned to the win column with a 17-9 home victory over St. John’s.

Providence (8-3, 2-0) defeated Georgetown (2-9, 0-3), 13-7, on Saturday at Chapey Field marking the Friars' fourth-consecutive victory. It was the first win over the Hoyas for the Friars since the series began in 1987. The first quarter had just one goal scored by either team. PC score four goals to open the second period, but went into the lockerroom up 5-3. Although the Hoyas pulled within one in the third period, the Friars held on to their lead. Friar goalkeeper Tate Boyce had 17 saves in the win, seven in the fourth quarter. Georgetown outshot Providence 39-33. Friars Brendan Kearns and Nick Hatzipetrakos had five points each. Kearns scored four goals. Hatzipetrakos had four assists. Austin McDonald had a hat trick for the Hoyas.

Marquette’s Tanner Thomson tallied a career-high six goals, en route to the Golden Eagles tying a program record for goals in a 17-9 victory over St. John's on Saturday afternoon at Valley Fields. Marquette (6-3, 2-1) also scored 17 goals in the season-opener at Jacksonville. Junior Zachary Melillo won 19-of-25 at the face-off dot after going 7-of-14 to start the contest. Marquette then went on to win thirteen straight face-offs fueled by Melillo's flawless second half. Joe Madsen scored four goals for the Red Storm (1-10, 0-2) and five other St. John's players notched a marker in the afternoon matchup. Thomson ties Jordan Greenfield for second all-time in MU history with six goals in a single game. The Marquette program record of seven goals was set by Andy DeMichiei in last year's meeting with St. John's in Queens, N.Y. The Golden Eagles not only dominated on the offensive end, but also held the Red Storm to only three goals over the last 30 minutes. MU outshot SJU 47-22. Marquette won the ground ball game 31-13.

In the first top 20 league match up of the season, No. 5 Denver, the home team, came away victorious over visiting No. 18 Villanova on Sunday on FS1. Denver junior Trevor Baptiste controlled the game as he scored his first career hat trick, while finishing 23-for-28 from the X. Baptiste also added an assist while scooping up 17 ground balls to lead Denver (8-2, 2-0). Connor Cannizzaro and freshman Ethan Walker led the attack with nine total points between the duo. Cannizzaro posted a hat trick and one assist while Walker added a pair of markers and a trio of helpers in the win. Villanova (6-5, 1-1 BIG EAST) was led by Christian Cuccinello who ended with two goals and two assists, Jack Curran posted a hat trick before the end of the third quarter and Nick Testa took the decision with 10 saves. Denver and Villanova were tied at 4-4 through the middle of the second period as Villanova rallied back from a 4-1 deficit to end the first period. Denver took a 10-5 lead in the third period, but the Wildcats scored three more to come withint two, 10-8 with 2:47 left in the frame. Denver finished the period and went into the fourth scoring four unanswered goals, the 14th scored by Baptiste. The teams went back and fourth scoring in the fourth but Denver’s cushion was too large for Villanova to overcome. The game in Denver was sold out, the 21st-straight sellout at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
