St. John’s Sweeps #BIGEASTsb Weekly Awards
NEW YORK, N.Y. – St. John’s sweeps the BIG EAST Athlete of the Week honors for the first time this season as Krystal Puga garnered the BIG EAST Player of the Week recognition and Grace Krammer was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Krystal Puga, St. John’s, Jr., 1B
Puga led conference-leader St. John’s to its fourth BIG EAST sweep of the season as the Johnnies blanked Georgetown for the weekend. The junior first baseman batted .571 and slugged 1.429 as she finished with two home runs, seven RBI and scored five runs. In the series opener, she came off the bench to score twice and hammer a pinch hit home run. In Game 2, Puga broke the contest open in the second inning with her first-career grand slam.
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Grace Kramer, St. John’s, Sr.
Kramer helped the Johnnies to a conference sweep over Georgetown as she boasted a 0.70 ERA last week while holding opposing batters to a .063 batting average. The hurler pitched 10.0 innings going 1-0 with a league-high 12 strikeouts. The senior played a huge role in the series opener as she came in with no outs and the bases-loaded, down one run, in the fourth and recorded three-straight strikeouts to keep the game close. Next inning, St. John’s took the lead and never looked back as Kramer struck out seven of the nine batters she faced to earn the win. On Sunday, she tossed a complete-game four hitter with five strikeouts to close out her home career with a win on Senior Day.
Weekly Honor Roll
Brette Lawrence, Villanova, Sr., P
The senior pitched to a 2.67 ERA and collected two conference wins in the circle against DePaul, tying Villanova’s single-season program wins mark at 23, which was set by Shannon Williams in 2005.
Nikki Alden, Villanova, Jr., INF
Hot at the plate, Alden batted .636 (7-of-11) in the Wildcats’ matchup against DePaul, delivering four RBI and a .727 slugging percentage.
Christina Ramirez, Providence, Jr., P.
Ramirez picked up two wins against Creighton, pitching to a 1.24 ERA while striking out nine in 11.1 innings of work.
Nicole Lundstrom, Providence, Sr., UT
Lundstrom batted .444 (4-of-9) with four runs and one RBI in a three-game series against Creighton. The veteran also registered three walks.
Noel Lent, Seton Hall, Sr., OF
Lent led the offensive effort for Seton Hall with a .600 batting average (6-of-10) with two RBI and a pair of extra base hits against Butler.
