Butler Sweeps Final #BIGEASTbase Weekly Awards

NEW YORK –  Butler outfielder Tyler Houston and pitcher Garrett Christman earn the final BIG EAST baseball weekly awards of the 2017 season. Houston batted .500 against the top seed in the BIG EAST tournament, Creighton, while Christman pitched a complete game against the Bluejays, helped by nine strikeouts in a 7-1 win.  
 
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Tyler Houston, Butler, Jr., OF (Brownsburg, Ind.)
Bulldog outfielder Tyler Houston was named BIG EAST Player of the Week after batting .455 (5-for-11) in a three-game span; .500 (4-for-8) against the top seed in the upcoming BIG EAST tournament, Creighton. Butler split the two-game series against the Bluejays, helped by Houston who had a home run, two runs and three RBI. For the week, Houston had a slugging percentage of .727 and a .500 on-base percentage with a stolen base.
 
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Garrett Christman, Butler, Jr., RHP/Starter/Utility (Noblesville, Ind.)
Junior Garrett Christman, who has played at various positions this year, had a nine-inning appearance on the mound for Butler against Creighton, the top seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament. Christman earned the win after scattering just three hits, with three walks while striking out nine Bluejay batters in the complete game 7-1 win. Christman’s ERA for the day was 1.00.
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Rollie Lacy, Creighton, Jr. RHP/Starter (Minnetrista, Minn.)
Pitched 7.1 innings in a 3-1 victory for Creighton. Allowed just one run and no walks while allowing seven hits. Lacy struck out four batters.
Sean Mooney, St. John’s, Fr., RHP/Starter (Marmora, N.J.)
Mooney advanced to 8-0 on the season with a four-hit, 6.0 inning victory over Villanova (15-1). He allowed no runs during his appearance and walked one with four strikeouts. In 82 pitches, 52 were strikes.
Ryan Pfutzenreuter, Villanova, Fr., RHP/Relief (Deerfield, Ill.)
Pfutzenreuter pitched 5.1 innings in relief with six strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA against a dominant St. John’s lineup that ranked third in the nation. He helped close out the game on Saturday to secure a win for the Wildcats, striking out four in his 3.1 innings. He allowed just two Red Storm hits.
Joe Gellenbeck, Xavier, Sr., OF (Lebanon, Ohio)
Gellenbeck led Xavier to a 4-0 week, which included a sweep of Georgetown, with a .467 average (7-for-15), scoring five times, homering twice and driving in six runs. Against the Hoyas he batted .333 with two runs and five RBI. He hit his 10th homer of the season in Friday’s win over Georgetown, helping XU clinch the three-seed in the BIG EAST Tournament.
Zac Lowther, Xavier, Jr., LHP/Starter (Brooklyn Heights, Ohio)
Lowther picked up a win on Thursday over Georgetown, helping Xavier clinch a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament. Lowther went for 6.0 innings without being hit once. He struck out seven batters and left the game with a large lead for the Musketeers in an eventual 17-2 win.
