Why We’re Watching:
Creighton and St. John’s are playing for a chance to advance to the BIG EAST title game against Xavier on Sunday. The Musketeers punched their ticket with a 7-6 victory over the Bluejays on Friday night. In 2016, Creighton ended St. John’s season with a 10-inning 4-3 victory in the same situation. Creighton’s Reagan Fowler scored the winning run in the 10th with a walk-off single to left center. Creighton wants to get back to the title game, where the Bluejays have lost the past three years. A win for Creighton would guarantee a rematch against Xavier. St. John’s last competed in the title game in 2015, the last time the tournament was at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. The Red Storm won it all, defeating Creighton, 8-7. St. John’s holds a 2-1 series advantage over Creighton in the BIG EAST Championship. In tournament games played at TDAPO, St. John’s is unbeaten at 2-0. The last two St. John’s-Creighton games were decided by one run. During the regular season, Creighton took two from St. John’s in Omaha. The Bluejays just beat the Red Storm out for the regular season title this year, having a winning percentage .11 better than St. John’s. With 41 wins so far, St. John’s is looking for a more W’s on its resume to show off to the NCAA tournament committee.
