Final #BIGEASTtrack Weekly Awards Go To Georgetown, Marquette and St. John’s

NEW YORK – Heading into this weekend’s BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships Presented by Jeep; the final track & field weekly awards feature student-athletes from Georgetown, Marquette and St. John’s. None are repeated from this outdoor season.
 
BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Darren Fahy, Georgetown, Grad Student, Distance (Carlsbad, Calif.)
Running in front of his home-state crowd, Georgetown grad student Darren Fahy finished seventh in the first section of the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Payton Jordan Invitational on May 5. Fahy’s time is the fastest in the conference this season, sixth fastest in the East Region and 11th in the NCAA. This weekend was his first time running the event this season.
 
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Dwayne Dash Jr., Marquette, Sr., Jumps (Savannah, Ga.)
Marquette senior Dwayne Dash took first place in the long jump at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic last Friday, May 5 with a mark of 6.90 meters. Dash already holds the second-best BIG EAST distance of the season.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Jasmine Burkett, St. John’s, Jr., Sprints (Jacksonville, Fla.)
Junior St. John’s sprinter Jasmine Burkett championed the 400-meter hurdles at thee Fourth Annual Tom Farrell Classic on their home track on Saturday. Burkett’s time of 1:00.95 would rank third in the conference standings, which she leads with a time of 1:00.22.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Maya Marion, Marquette, Jr., Throws (Aurora, Ill.)
Maya Marion threw the top mark in the BIG EAST in the shot put with a throw of 14.69 meters. Her throw ranked 55th in the West Region and was a fifth place performance at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic. Marion also marked a personal best in the hammer throw with a distance of 51.58 meters, fourth best in the league. She also placed 11th in the discus throw with a mark of 40.86 meters.
 
BIG EAST Notable Performances
  • Butler standout Erik Peterson posted a time of 13:57.57 in placing 15th at Stanford’s Payton Jordan Invitational on May 5. The race featured seven Olympians in the field.
  • Marquette sophomore Connor Boos set a new person best in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.75 seconds, taking second at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic by just one hundredth of a second. 10.75 seconds is the second-best time in the BIG EAST. He also ran the third leg of a 4x100 relay squad that broke the Marquette for the fourth time this season (40.71 seconds).
