Red Storm improve to 1-0-1 on the season after 2-1 victory over Marist.

St. John’s 2, Marist 1

Christina Bellero totaled three points to lead St. John’s (1-0-1) to its first win of the season, a 2-1 victory over local foe Marist. The junior forward opened the scoring in the 61st minute with her second goal of the season, before assisting on what would be the game winner by Mariela Jacome in the 68th minute. The Red Foxes responded late with a score in the 86th, but St. John’s was able to hold off the surge. Jordan Kamp had two saves in net as the Red Storm outshot Marist 20-9.

In The Polls
Following a narrow 1-0 defeat on Friday to No. 1 West Virginia, Georgetown fell to No. 11 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. The Hoyas rebounded with an emphatic 4-0 win on Sunday over George Washington. GU is just over a week away from another shot at a No. 1 squad as Stanford moved into a tie for first with WVU and the Hoyas travel to Palo Alto, Calif., on Sept. 1.
 
NCAA Career Leaders
A trio of BIG EAST players among the NCAA leaders in a number of active career statistical categories. Georgetown senior midfielder Rachel Corboz highlights the bunch as the NCAA active leader in total assists with 33. Corboz also lists third in helpers per game (0.48) and fourth among all active Division I players with 85 career points. Fellow MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List member Alexa Ben of DePaul is also among the best set-up players in the game, ranking 11th in both total assists (21) and dishes per game (0.35). Hoya goalkeeper Arielle Schechtman rounds out the group with Division I’s No. 3 goals against average of 0.53, while her 16 career shutouts lists 20th.
 
Week Ahead
Following a quiet Wednesday for BIG EAST teams, five squads take the pitch on Thursday and four more on Friday. Included in the busy stretch are a pair of matches against 2016 NCAA Tournament participants when Creighton visits Wisconsin (Thursday, 8 p.m. ET) and Providence travels to Harvard (Friday, 4:30 p.m.). The Bluejays will face their second straight NCAA qualifier on Sunday when they travel to RV Oklahoma State (1 p.m.).
