NEW YORK – On Saturday night, BIG EAST men’s soccer teams went 1-3-1, with St. John’s earning a home victory over Temple and No. 18 Georgetown tying UConn on the road, 1-1. Villanova, Providence and Marquette lost one-goal matches. On Sunday, Seton Hall earned its third win this week with a 2-1 victory on the road at Penn.
Heading into the final week of non-conference play Georgetown leads the standings with a 4-0-1 record and a national ranking of No. 18. Xavier is close behind at 3-1-1. The two teams will play each other in the BIG EAST opener on Saturday, but the Musketeers will have one more tune up with Cleveland State on Wednesday. Seton Hall is hottest team going into week three of men’s soccer action, heading into their non-conference game against Delaware on Wednesday on a three-game win streak.
ST. JOHN’S 2, Temple 0
St. John’s put away two goals in the span of four minutes to break the scoreless tie and earn the Red Storm’s first home win of the season, 2-0 over Temple. Alistair Johnston scored the game winner on a penalty kick in the 70th minute, while Matt Forster scored the insurance goal for St. John’s (2-2-1).

No. 18 GEORGETOWN 1, Connecticut 1 (2OT)
Georgetown (4-0-1) continued its unbeaten streak out of the weekend as the Hoyas played Connecticut to a 1-1 draw in Storrs, Conn. The Hoyas controlled possession, but could not generate enough quality chances to pick up the victory. UConn scored first in the 14th minute. Hoya Christopher Lema tied it up with a PK in the 37th minute. Keeper JT Marcinkowski made three saves in the draw..

Saint Louis 1, MARQUETTE 0
Marquette(0-3-1) had many chances to score with a 15-10 edge in shots, including seven that landed on target with two others that hit the crossbar, but it wasn't enough as a late penalty helped St. Louis prevail, 1-0, on Saturday night. The deciding factor in this one was Saint Louis’ Lennart Hein's penalty in the 72nd minute. Following a collision between MU keeper Luis Barraza and the SLU attacker, the referee awarded a penalty and SLU capitalized for the second-straight year.

Harvard 2, PROVIDENCE 1
Harvard scored in the eighth minute to take an early lead over Providence. The Friars (2-3-0) appeared to have scored the equalizer a few minutes later, but the goal was called off. In the 19th minute, redshirt senior forward Mac Steeves scored to tie the game at 1-1 in the 19th minute. Harvard scored the game-winner in the 85th minute .

rv Loyola Maryland 1, VILLANOVA 0
A goal by the Greyhounds in the 82nd minute was the deciding factor in the game in Baltimore for Loyola Maryland against Villanova. Villanova (2-3-0) was unable to convert its best chances, however, and Loyola got the one it needed in the 82nd minute off a set piece that proved to be the difference for the Greyhounds. Villanova played without reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Yusuf Cueceoglu. Cueceoglu did not travel with the team to Baltimore due to a family matter.

SETON HALL 2, Penn 1
Penn score first, but Seton Hall (3-2-1) answered less than a minute later with a goal by Marco Neves. Andres Arcila scored his fourth goal of the season and third goal this week, the eventual game-winner. Seton Hall finished with a 10-5 edge in total shots and 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. The win gave Seton Hall its third of the week and second come-from-behind win in a row.
