Marquette Sweeps Weekly X-C Honors
NEW YORK – Marquette’s Daniel Pederson and Jessica Parker are the BIG EAST have been named the BIG EAST Male and Female Athletes of the Week in Cross Country, respectively. Both turned in outstanding performances at the Vic Godfrey Open held at the Dannehl National Course in Somers, Wis., which will be the site of the 2017 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship on Oct. 28.
BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week
Daniel Pederson, Marquette, So. – Pederson finished in second place with a time of 25:14.4 in a field of 167 competitors in the 8K race on the Dannehl National Course. His time was a career best and helped the Golden Eagles take first place in the 10-team event.
BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week
Jessica Parker, Marquette, Jr. – Parker continued her fast start to the fall season with a first-place finish among 163 runners on the Dannehl Course. She covered the 5K course in a time of 17:47.6 for her first career victory. The Golden Eagles took first place in the team standings, beating 11 other squads.

Men’s News – Butler’s Michael Carey finished 12th to lead the Bulldogs at the John McNichols Invitational in Terry Haute, Ind. His time in the 8K race was 26:16.2 in a field of 39 runners…Providence’s Tom O’Neill won the Bryant Nassaney Invitational at Bryant University. The senior covered 8K in 25:01…Creighton senior Jacob Ohnstad finished 11th at the Oz Memorial, completing the four-mile run in a time of 21:00.6. It was the second straight week he was the Bluejays’ top performer…Georgetown’s Piper Donaghu finished fifth at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Club Invitational in State College, Pa. with a time of 21:25 over 6K. All five Hoya point scorers were among the top 15 and they were beaten only by No. 11 Penn State in head-to-head matchups.
Women’s News – Providence’s Millie Paladino won the Bryant Nassaney Invitational with a time of 16:58.2 in a 5K race, finishing about 30 seconds ahead of the runner-up. She finished first among 69 competitors. The Friars took second place in the four-team event…St. John’s Elizabeth Constantino took fourth place in the Ed Joyce Fordham Fiasco at Van Cortlandt Park, the site of the 2016 BIG EAST Championships. Her 5K time of 19:14.42 was a personal best…Seton Hall’s Christiana Rutkowski finished six seconds ahead of the field at the Wolfie Invitational at Stony Brook. The senior completed the 5K course in 17:44.7 for her second win of the season…Georgetown sophomore Reilly Bloomer took fifth place at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Club Invitational in State College, Pa. His time over the 5.2 mile course was 26:07.
BIG EAST Presence In the USTFCCCA Polls
In Week One of the USTFCCCA women’s poll, three BIG EAST teams are ranked. Providence was No. 7 followed by Villanova at No. 18 and Georgetown at No. 27. In the men’s poll, Georgetown was No. 15.
