NEW YORK  – BIG EAST men’s soccer’s reigning Offensive Player of the Week, Seton Hall’s Andres Arcila, was awarded national honors on Tuesday as he was announced as the United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) National Player of the Week.

The national honor comes after Arcila's nine-point week that netted BIG EAST Player of the Week honors and helped the Pirates to a three-game winning streak. Arcila is the first Pirate to win the prestigious award since Samuel Petrone on Sept. 10, 2008. Each week, a male and female player in each NCAA Division is selected by a committee from a nomination pool comprised of players of the week from each NCAA soccer conference.

Arcila currently ranks 10th in the country with 11 total points and 15th national with four goals, ranking first and second in the BIG EAST, respectively.

National Poll Notes
Earlier on Tuesday, the United Soccer Coaches released their Week 3 National Poll and Regional rankings. Georgetown made the jump into the top 10 from No. 18 last week to No. 9 with 388 points. The Hoyas are 4-0-1 and have defeated teams ranked ahead of them two Mondays in a row. The Hoyas’ next contest is their BIG EAST opener against Xavier on Saturday.

Butler and Creighton are just outside of the top 25, both receiving votes with four and nine, respectively.

BIG EAST men’s soccer play starts on Saturday with all five matches on the BIG EAST Digital Network. However, Tuesday features five matches against non-conference foes for St. John’s, Marquette, Butler, DePaul and Xavier.
