Butler's Makepeace, Creighton's Martin Earn Weekly X-C Honors
NEW YORK – Butler’s Euan Makepeace earned BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week in cross country after winning the Commodore Classic. Creighton’s Emily Martin was named BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week after taking second place in the Sundodger Invitational.
BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week
Euan Makepeace, Butler, So. – Makepeace won the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tenn., in his first meet of the fall season. The sophomore posted a time of 24:39.8 on the 8K Percy Warner Park course. Makepeace upset Middle Tennessee State All-American Jacob Choge (24:44.8). The Bulldogs finished second in the 15-team event. Makepeace, who finished third in last year’s BIG EAST Championship, took fifth place in last year’s Commodore Classic This year's performance also earned National Runner of the Week honors from The Stride Report.
BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week
Emily Martin, Creighton, Jr. – Martin finished in second place at the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle, Wash., with a 6K time of 20:34.41, just five seconds behind Washington’s Amy-Eloise Neal (20:29.87), who was eighth in last year’s NCAA Cross Country Championship. Washington is ranked No. 12 in this week’s USTFCCA poll. Martin has been the Bluejays’ top finisher in her last eight races. Her time at the Sundodger was the second-fastest 6K in program history and her best mark at the distance by 32 seconds.

Men’s News – Villanova’s Casey Comber won the Main Line Invitational with a time of 19:20.8 over the four-mile course. It was the second straight year the sophomore has won the event and was Villanova’s first meet of the fall…DePaul’s Jake Pecorin placed 30
th out of 85 runners at the National Catholic Invitational. He ran the five-mile course in 26:27.5…Seton Hall’s Jake Simon finished second at the NJIT Invite, running the 8K course in 24:23.42.
Women’s News – Xavier’s Madeline Britton placed eighth in the Commodore Classic with a time of 17:46.9 in the 5K race. The Musketeers finished sixth in a 17-team field that included No. 14 Missouri and No. 21 Eastern Michigan...Villanova’s Nicole Hutchinson finished first among 28 runners at the Main Line Invitational. The junior ran the 3.0-mile course in a time of 16:20.5…DePaul’s Miranda Rose finished 26
th among 84 competitors at the National Catholic Invitational at Notre Dame, Ind. She covered the 5K course in 18:42.8. Marquette’s Jessica Parker was the top BIG EAST finisher, taking eighth with a time of 18:07.0. Marquette finished in third place with DePaul finishing eighth…Seton Hall and St. John’s dominated the NJIT Invite. The Hall’s Christiana Rutkowski won the race with a time of 18:15.50 in the 5K run. St. John’s Elisabeth Costantino was the runner-up with a personal-best time of 18:53.43. Four Pirates and three Red Storm runners filled the top seven positions.
BIG EAST Presence In the USTFCCCA Polls
Three BIG EAST teams remain ranked in the USTFCCCA women’s poll of Sept. 19. Providence was No. 7 followed by Villanova at No. 13 and Georgetown at No. 25. In the men’s poll, Georgetown was No. 16.
