NEW YORK
 – Weekend No. 3 of the 2017 volleyball season brings more top 25 matches and games against teams who received 2016 NCAA Tournament berths. On the road this weekend are:  Butler, Creighton, St. John’s, Seton Hall and Xavier. DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence and Villanova are all at home.
 
So far, the BIG EAST is collectively 43-20 overall in non-conference action.
 
More Top 25 Matchups On Deck For #BIGEASTvb
Three top 25 opponent matches are on the schedule for BIG EAST teams. Creighton, ranked ninth in the most recent AVCA poll, will play No. 17 Purdue at 11 a.m. on Friday, then at No. 7 Kansas for a 2016 NCAA Second Round rematch on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. No. 13 Kentucky will visit Marquette.
 
This Weekend’s Top 25 Matches:
No. 17 Purdue vs. No. 9 Creighton (Sept. 8 at 11 a.m.)
No. 9 Creighton at No. 7 Kansas (Sept. 9 at 8:30 p.m.)
No. 13 Kentucky at Marquette (Sept. 10 at 2:30 p.m.)
 
Also noted – matches against 2016 NCAA Tournament Teams:
Kansas State at Xavier (Sept. 8 at 11 a.m.)
Princeton at Villanova (Sept. 8 at 1:30 p.m.)
Cincinnati vs. Seton Hall (Sept. 8 at 5 p.m.)
James Madison at Georgetown (Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m.)
Dayton vs. Seton Hall (Sept. 9 at 5 p.m.)
 
The BIG EAST is currently 3-6 against teams ranked in the AVCA Top 25.
 
Like Opponents
There are eight like opponents on the schedule this weekend: Princeton, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Army West Point, Holy Cross, Albany, Buffalo and Kentucky. Against these like opponents, the BIG EAST is 5-3. Georgetown defeated Army, which DePaul is playing. St. John’s defeated both Holy Cross and Albany, which Providence and Villanova are playing respectively. Seton Hall defeated Buffalo, who Georgetown will play against and Marquette hosts Kentucky, who Creighton beat. Connecticut will play at Villanova, St. John’s lost to the Huskies earlier this season. Cincinnati will play against Seton Hall. Xavier lost to the Bearcats already in 2016. Princeton will play at Villanova. Seton Hall recently lost to Princeton, 3-2 on Wednesday.
 
A Glance Around The League
Butler competes at Kent State for the Golden Flashes Classic. Creighton visits Lawrence, Kansas to play two top 20 teams and an Ohio Valley Conference favorite for the Kansas Invitational.  DePaul hosts Army West Point, Milwaukee and Northwestern to the DePaul Classic. Georgetown is also at home, hosting Coppin State, Buffalo and James Madison for the Georgetown Classic. Marquette welcomes Loyola Chicago and Kentucky to the Al McGuire Center. Providence hosts the 13th Annual Friar Classic. St. John’s travels upstate for the Cornell Classic. Seton Hall is visiting Illinois State for the Redbird Classic with two 2016 NCAA tournament squads. Seton Hall will have played three straight NCAA tournament teams in Princeton (L, 3-2), Cincinnati and Dayton.  Villanova hosts Princeton, UConn and Albany at Jake Nevin Filed House and Xavier will continue with their second game of the Georgia Tech Invitational after losing to the host school on Thursday evening.
