After a back-and-forth opening few minutes, the Pirates went ahead on a Donnaizha Fountain three-pointer with six minutes left in the opening frame and never looked back. Fountain finished with game highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead The Hall (9-6, 1-3 BIG EAST) to their first league win of the year. Providence (8-8, 1-3) trimmed a once 17-point margin down to seven in the fourth quarter but the Pirates hung on thanks to Inja Butina’s free-throws down the stretch. Chanell Williams led the Friars with a career-high 16 points and six rebounds.

21/21 Villanova 75, Xavier 57
The Wildcats led wire-to-wire to improve to 12-2 on the year and 2-2 in BIG EAST play. Kelly Jekot stuffed the stat sheet for Villanova with 21 points, six assists and five rebounds. The Wildcats had their best shooting night in BIG EAST play this season, knocking down over 49 percent of their attempts. Xavier (8-6, 1-2 BIG EAST) was led by Jada Byrd’s 12 points, four rebounds and three assists. The Musketeers committed just 10 miscues, their second-best mark this season.

St. John’s 72, Creighton 65 (OT)
Tiana England scored two of her game-best 17 with six seconds left to send the game into overtime and sealed the win for the Red Storm with a pair of freebies at the end of the extra frame. St. John’s (8-7, 1-3 BIG EAST) took the lead with 1:42 left in the first half and increased the advantage to as many as 10 before the Bluejays stormed back, highlighted by a 20-12 fourth quarter to see the game go into extra time. Alisha Kebbe drained a pair of three-pointers in the bonus time to give the Red Storm the advantage, as Kebbe also finished with 17 points. Sydney Lamberty led Creighton (9-5, 3-1) with 14 points and four assists.

Butler 66, Georgetown 57
Tori Schickel and Whitney Jennings combined for 54 points as Butler claimed its second straight BIG EAST win. Schickel added a game-high 15 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the year. Cynthia Petke led Georgetown (7-7, 2-2 BIG EAST) with her eighth double-double of the season of 12 points and 10 boards. The Bulldogs (10-5, 2-1) held the Hoyas to just 30-percent shooting on the night, while knocking down 44 percent of their own shots.
