Bluejays, Friars and Hoyas pick up Week 5 wins to be the top three in the BIG EAST standings.

BIG EAST men’s soccer teams passed the halfway point in league play this weekend with their fifth league match. Creighton remained undefeated in BIG EAST play with its fifth win, whlie Providence maintained its solo spot in second with a double-overtime victory. Georgetown broke free of a three-way tie for third with a 2OT win on Saturday to claim the lone spot in third, while Marquette moved into a three-way tie for fourth with a win, accompanied by Xavier and St. John’s setbacks.
 
Marquette 4, St. John’s 0
The Golden Eagles matched their highest scoring output of the season with four goals at Valley Fields on Saturday night. Four different MU players scored, with Luka Prpa finishing with four points of a goal and two assists. Luis Barraza picked up the clean sheet victory with six saves, while Lenny Wilson had five saves for the Red Storm.

Georgetown 2, Villanova 1 (2OT)
After trading second-half goals by Derek Dodson and Evan Vare, GU and VU entered overtime knotted at 1-1. Each team put up two shots in the first overtime frame, bu it was Riley Strassner’s strike in the 106th minute that decided the match, as Strassner headed home the game winner to stretch the Hoyas’ unbeaten streak to four. Ethan Koehler had five saves in the win, while Carson Williams made four stops for the Wildcats

Butler 3, DePaul 1
After nearly 60 minutes of scoreless soccer, Butler and DePaul combined for four goals in a roughly 26-minute span. The host Blue Demons struck first as Max de Bruijne scored in the 60th minute, but the Bulldogs responded eight minutes later with Alex Lehtinen’s unassisted game-tying score. Butler scored twice more in the final 10 minutes, with Lee Logan providing the game winner and Brandon Guhl adding an insurance score. Gabriel Gjergji made four saves in the win, while Drew Nuelle had three saves in the loss.

Creighton 3, Xavier 1
Sven Koenig scored just three minutes into the contest for the lone goal in the first half, while Simen Hestnes knotted the game in the 50th minute. Creighton responded with the next two goals to break free, as Akeem Ward was credited with the 58th-minute game winner and Tor Trosten added an 84th-minute insurance score. Trosten added an assist, while Yudai Tashiro had two helpers. Paul Kruse earned the win with six saves.

Providence 1, Seton Hall 0 (2OT)
The Friars maintained their hold on second place thanks to Steven Kilday’s golden goal in the 102nd minute. PC outshot The Hall 13-5, inlcuding 4-0 in overtime, while keeping all of the Pirates’ strikes off target. Andreas Nota had four saves for Seton Hall.
