Villanova's Alcorta, Marston Take Weekly Cross Country Honors
NEW YORK – Villanova’s Caroline Alcorta and Andrew Marston have earned BIG EAST Female and Male Athletes of the Week in Cross Country. Alcorta and Marston finished first and second, respectively, against large fields in their races at the Princeton Invitational.
BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week
Andrew Marston, Villanova, So. – In a field of 219 participants, Marston took second place at the Princeton Invitational. He covered the 8K course in 24:03.5 and finished as Villanova’s top runner for the first time this season. He was part of a 2-3 finish with Casey Comber (24:06.4). The Wildcats finished second to host Princeton, ranked 28th nationally, in the team standings.
BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week
Caroline Alcorta, Villanova, Gr. – Alcorta finished first in a field of 222 runners at the Princeton Invitational. She picked up her second win in three starts this fall by a margin of nearly 14 seconds. She ran the 6K course in a time of 20:23.9. Alcorta led the Wildcats to a 1-2-3 sweep at the top of the race. Senior Nicolle Hutchinson was second (20:37.7) and sophomore Lauren Ryan took third (21:09.6). Villanova won the team title with five of the first eight finishers.

Men’s News –
Georgetown excelled at the Penn State National Open. Junior Jack Van Scoter took 14th place with a time of 25:21 over the 5.2 miles. The Hoyas finished fifth in the 21-team field. Three of the teams that finished ahead of Georgetown are ranked – No. 16 Arkansas, No. 18 Eastern Michigan and No. 19 Virginia…At the Bradley Pink Classic, Daniel Pederson of

Women’s News – Paige Hofstad of
Georgetown continued her strong season with an 11th-place finish at the Penn State National Open. She ran the 6K course in 20:57. The Hoyas finished 13th in the 28-team field and behind two top-20 schools – No. 14 Michigan State and No. 19 Penn State…The
Butler women placed seventh in the 39-team Bradley Pink Classic. The Bulldogs were led by junior Josephine Thestrup, who finished 11th with a time of 21:01.8…Also at the Bradley Classic,
Xavier was paced by sophomore Jenna Clayworth, who took 20th with a time of 21:19.50. Mary Hanson of
Marquette finished 23rd with a time of 21:22.7.
Creighton’s top performer was Danielle Hotalling, who finished 92nd among the 298 competitors with a time of 22:08.4. She has led the Bluejays for fourth straight outings.

In the USTFCCCA national polls of Oct. 16, the women’s poll has Villanova at No. 8 with Georgetown receiving votes. In the men’s poll, Georgetown and Villanova are receiving votes.
