Seton Hall’s Gibson, Jackson Earn #BIGEASTswim Honors
NEW YORK – Seton Hall’s Joe Gibson and Taylor Jackson have been recognized as this week’s BIG EAST swimming and diving Male and Female Athletes of the Week, respectively. The Pirates went on the road to West Virginia for a tri-meet which included BIG EAST foe Xavier. Seton Hall men defeated Xavier, while the Musketeer women topped the Pirates. Both teams fell to the host Mountaineers. Providence competed against Bryant in its home opener, and both Friar men and women were defeated by the Bulldogs.
BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week
Taylor Jackson, Seton Hall, So., Diving (Thornton, Colo.)
Jackson captured first place on the 3-meter board with a score of 252.75 against West Virginia as the only win for the Pirate women. Her competition included the reigning Big 12 Diver of the Week. Jackson has won the 3-meter event so far in all three of Seton Hall’s meets this season. She also holds the top scores in the conference on both 3-meter (301.34) and 1-meter (300.30) boards. Her 1-meter score is currently 19
th overall in the nation.
BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week
Joe Gibson, Seton Hall, Jr., Fly/IM (Chicago, Ill.)
Gibson was victorious in the 1000-yard freestyle race versus West Virginia and Xavier, which was the single win for the Seton Hall men in the meet. He touched first in 9:46.12, which is second-best in the BIG EAST. He finished third in the 500-yard freestyle, coming in at 4:40.11. That time is the fastest in the league so far this season. Gibson swam the leadoff leg on the Pirates’ runner-up 400-yard freestyle relay squad that was clocked at 3:08.35. Their time is second-best in the conference.
Notable Performances
Emily Conners, Xavier, Jr., Free (Sunfish Lake, Minn.)
Conners secured the lone win for the Musketeers in the 100-yard freestyle against Seton Hall and West Virginia, touching the wall in a time of 51.91. She was runner-up in three other events, including the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.55. Conner was a member of the second place 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.79) and 200-yard medley relay (1:46.97). She already holds the top times in the BIG EAST in each of these events.
