LYNCHBURG, Va. Liberty field hockey’s Agueda Moroni has been named the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Moroni is the first two-time national offensive player of the week recipient in 2018. Also the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week (third time this season), the Lady Flames senior recorded six goals, three assists and 15 points in three games last week.

Her two most prominent accomplishments of the week included breaking the single-season Liberty field hockey program record for goals with her 20th goal of the season versus Wake Forest this past Sunday and notching her fourth hat trick of the season last Friday against Quinnipiac.

Moroni’s record-breaking 20th goal, which occurred in the third minute against the Demon Deacons on a penalty corner, came in just her 11th game of the season. The Argentina native’s three-goal effort versus Quinnipiac propelled Liberty to an 8-1 victory and a 3-0 mark in BIG EAST play. Last Tuesday against Temple, Moroni recorded six points (2 g, 2a) in the Lady Flames’ 8-2 victory over the Owls.

Moroni is No. 1 in the nation in goals per game (1.82) and points per game (4.45) while placing fourth in assists per game (0.82). She leads the country in goals (20) and points (49). With 49 points, Moroni is 12 points ahead of the closest player, Emily McNamara of VCU (17 g, 3 a, 37 pts).

Moroni and the Lady Flames (8-3, 3-0 BIG EAST), who share first place in the BIG EAST with No. 3 UConn (10-1, 3-0 BIG EAST), will be back on the pitch at No. 22 Old Dominion (7-3, 1-2 BIG EAST) on Friday at 5 p.m. The Lady Flames will face No. 1 North Carolina (11-0, 4-0 ACC) at home on Sunday at 1 p.m. This will be the third time Liberty has ever hosted the nation’s No. 1 team.
