Tiedtke, Miller, Collins Earn #BIGEASTfh Weekly Honors
NEW YORK – Connecticut’s Antonia Tiedtke, Villanova’s Erika Miller and Providence’s Amanda Collins were selected for BIG EAST weekly honors in field hockey. Tiedtke was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week. Miller took BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors and Collins was tabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Antonia Tiedtke, Connecticut, Jr., F (Frankfurt, Germany)
Tiedtke notched four points in a pair of weekend games. In a 3-0 win at Providence, she recorded two assists on penalty corner goals. In a 5-2 loss to No. 5 Princeton, Tiedtke scored once on her only shot of the game. For the season, Tiedtke ranks second nationally with 14 assists and an assist average of 1.08. The Huskies lead the nation with a 4.23 team assist average.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Erika Miller, Villanova, Sr., GK (Malvern, Pa.)
Miller led the Wildcats to a 2-1 victory over Quinnipiac in Villanova’s only game of the week. Miller faced nine shots on goal and had seven of the team’s eight saves. During the game, she recorded her 400th career save – 59 this season – with a save percentage of .656.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Amanda Collins, Providence, Fr., D, (San Diego, Calif.)
Collins scored her first collegiate goal in a 2-1 victory over Fairfield on Sunday. The goal came on Collins’ only shot of the game which tied the score 1-1. On Friday, Collins was part of a defensive effort that held Connecticut without a goal in the second half of a 3-0 defeat. Only four teams this season have been able to hold the Huskies scoreless for a single half of play.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Mallory Fortenbaugh, Liberty, Jr., D, (Millerstown, Pa.)
Fortenbaugh tallied her first career game-winning goal in a 2-0 win at No. 22 Old Dominion. Her goal came on a penalty corner in the 44th minute. Her defensive efforts led to Liberty’s second shutout of the season. While yielding only six total shots and four on goal to ODU. In a 7-1 loss to No. 1 North Carolina, Fortenbaugh recorded a defensive save and had an assist on the Lady Flames’ only goal.
Lydia Sydnor, Villanova, Jr., F (Bryn Mawr, Pa.)
Sydnor scored the game-winning goal on a penalty stroke in a 2-1 victory over Quinnipiac. She has six goals and two assists for the season and is tied for the team lead in both categories with teammate Megan Vermeil.
