NEW YORK – The BIG EAST volleyball season is quickly coming to a close with only three weekends left to play in the regular season. Nationally-ranked No. 9 Creighton will try to improve its 12-match, unbeaten conference record this weekend. On the BIG EAST Digital Network, DePaul will visit Georgetown on Friday at 5 p.m. ET. The Blue Demons and Hoyas will both look to rebound after dropping a pair of matches last weekend.
The Bluejays will seek their sixth straight BIG EAST Championship bid by securing at least one win over the next couple days. Creighton moved up a spot in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll after defeating second-place No. 19 Marquette in four sets last weekend. The Bluejays have not lost a conference match since November 17, 2017 when they were swept at Villanova.
The Golden Eagles stayed in the top-20 after falling just one spot in the rankings, and will look to hold onto second place in the BIG EAST standings. Marquette leads the league in four statistical categories which include hitting percentage and assists, kills and service aces per set.
St. John’s is locked into third after securing two road wins last weekend giving them a four-match winning streak. The Red Storm are second in the country in total team assists, accumulating 1,381 and total team kills with 1,453. Georgetown and Villanova are both tied for the fourth spot in the league standings. The Wildcats will try to keep their momentum going after sweeping their last two matches on the road.
Friday kicks off with the BIG EAST Digital Network match of the week, featuring DePaul (5-19, 3-9 BIG EAST) at Georgetown (13-11, 6-6) at 5 p.m. Beginning at 7 p.m., BIG EAST leader Creighton (20-4, 12-0) will square off with St. John’s (20-8, 9-4) in Queens.
