				MBB Minute -- St. John's Wins at Rutgers in Gavitt Games Finale; Butler Rallies Past Ole Miss in 2-1 Friday
				
					
							
				 
				
				
				
			
									
			The Gavitt Tipoff Games concluded Friday with St. John’s taking an 84-65 decision at Rutgers.  Mustapha Heron scored a game-high 27 points and L.J. Figueroa added 23 points and 11 rebounds.  The Johnnies (3-0) tied a school record with 16 3-pointers made.  Figueroa was 6-of-9 from beyond the arc and Heron was 4-of-5.
After falling behind 66-61, Butler used an 11-2 run to defeat Mississippi 83-76 in Hinkle Fieldhouse.  Paul Jorgensen put up a career-high 27 points and Kamar Baldwin added 23 points, a team-high eight rebounds and five assists.  The Bulldogs (3-0) made all 18 of their free throws in the second half.  The Bulldogs have won 46 in a row at home against non-league competition.
In the Jamaica Classic, Georgetown led Loyola Marymount in the first half, but could not make the advantage stand up in the second half.  The Hoyas (3-1) lost 65-52.  Jessie Govan posted his first double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
The Saturday slate shows four contests with three of the league squads looking to bounce back from defeats earlier this week.
Marquette hosts Presbyterian at 1 p.m. ET on FSN.  The Golden Eagles lost at Indiana on Wednesday.  Freshman forward Joey Hauser has been impressive early in his career with averages of 14.5 points and 5.5 rebounds.  He is shooting 58.8 percent from the field.
Providence meets South Carolina in the Hoop Hall Tipoff at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut at 2:30 p.m.  The game will be carried on ESPN3.  Alpha Diallo is averaging 20.3 points and 10.3 rebounds.  A.J. Reeves is the league’s top freshman scorer with a 17.7 average.
FS2 has a doubleheader, starting at 5 p.m., with Villanova hosting Furman.  The Wildcats are most anxious to get back into the win column after Wednesday’s loss to Michigan.  Furman already has a win against Final Four participant Loyola (Ill.) this season.
At 8 p.m., Seton Hall meets Saint Louis, the preseason favorite in the Atlantic 10, at Prudential Center.  The Pirates have won 29 straight at home against non-league opponents.  Myles Powell is off to a fast start, averaging 27.0 ppg.
