NEW YORK – DePaul guard Max Strus has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Georgetown guard James Akinjo has been chosen BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.  Strus helped the Blue Demons to a 2-0 week and Akinjo led the Hoyas to a 2-1 mark away from home.

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Max Strus, DePaul, G, Sr. – Strus averaged 23.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in two Blue Demon victories.  In a 72-70 overtime win against Penn State in the Gavitt Tipoff Games, Strus scored 15 of his 21 points after halftime.  Earlier in the week, the senior had 25 points in a 91-63 victory over Morgan State.  He grabbed nine rebounds in both contests.  For the two games, he shot 42.1 percent from 3-point range.  For the season, Strus leads the BIG EAST in scoring with a 23.7 average.    

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
James Akinjo, Georgetown, G, Fr.
Akinjo helped the Hoyas to a 2-1 week while averaging 14.3 points and 4.7 assists.  In his first collegiate road game, Akinjo posted 19 points, seven assists and three rebounds in an 88-80 win at Illinois.  At the Jamaica Classic, his 3-point basket with 4.9 seconds left sent the Hoyas’ game against USF into overtime where Georgetown prevailed 76-73.
 
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Kamar Baldwin, Butler G, Jr.
Averaged 24.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists in a 2-0 week.  Had 26 points in an 84-63 win over Morgan State and 23 points in an 83-76 victory over Mississippi.  Led his team in rebounds and assists in both games.    
Jessie Govan, Georgetown, C, Sr.
In a 2-1 week, averaged 19.3 points and 7.7 rebounds.  Had 27 points in a 76-73 OT win vs. USF and made the All-Tournament Team at Jamaica Classic. 
Sam Hauser, Marquette, G-F, Jr.
Averaged 15.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week.  Had 19 points and 10 boards in a 74-55 win vs. Presbyterian. 
Alpha Diallo, Providence, G, Jr.
Led the Friars to a 2-1 week by averaging 15.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists.  For the year, he is averaging 17.6 points, 9.4 boards and 4.6 assists.   
Mustapha Heron, St. John’s, G, Jr.
Scored a game-high 27 points in 84-65 win at Rutgers.  Had 16 of team’s first 17 points to open the second half.  Shot 10-of-14 from the field, 4-of-5 from 3-point range.
