BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Player Of the Week

In a 2-1 week for No. 16/16 DePaul against difficult competition in Cancun, Stonewall posted two double-doubles and averaged 16.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 2.3 assists. In Thursday’s win over RV Princeton, the junior posted a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds, while adding four steals and a trio of assists. Her exclamation point to the week came with 25 points, 10 rebounds and three steals in an overtime setback to No. 14/15 Syracuse on Sunday. Stonewall also added nine points and four rebounds in Friday’s win over Kansas State. The Blue Demons’ busy stretch continues with two more games this week – Savannah State on Monday and No. 2/2 Connecticut on Wednesday.
BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Freshman Of the Week
Kadaja Bailey, St. John’s, Fr., G
BIG EAST Preseason Freshman of the Year Bailey shined against stiff competition in St. Thomas, leading the Red Storm to a 2-1 record with its lone loss being a back-and-forth battle with No. 2 UConn. Bailey went for 11 points and nine rebounds against the Huskies, while also posting 15 points and four rebounds in Saturday’s win over Ole Miss. She averaged 9.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and .611 shooting in the three-game week.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
A’riana Gray, Xavier, So., F
Gray led the 4-1 Musketeers to a road win at Wake Forest with a game-high 17 points, to go along with six rebounds and three steals in just 24 minutes of work.
Kelly Jekot, Villanova, Jr., G
Jekot led the Wildcats in scoring in all three games last week, averaging 19.3 points off .590 shooting, to go along with 3.3 rebounds. Two of Jekot’s totals were game highs as well, including 22 points against RV Virginia Tech on Saturday in Orlando.
Shadeen Samuels, Seton Hall, Jr., F
The stellar season for Samuels continued on Sunday against St. Francis (N.Y.) with a career-high 29 points, while the junior added 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals. Samuels currently leads the BIG EAST in scoring with 19.3 points per game. The Pirates improved to 5-1 on the year with the win.
Amani Wilborn, Marquette, Sr., G
Wilborn needed just 21 minutes to score 18 points and grab 10 rebounds in Saturday’s large-margin win over Illinois Chicago. She added three steals and shot .583 from the field as No. 22/19 Marquette improved to 4-1 on the season.
Chanell Williams, Providence, So., G
In the Friars’ lone game of the week, Williams led PC with a career-high 25 points off 12-of-16 shooting, while adding three assists and a pair of rebounds as Providence knocked off Sacred Heart.
