No. 16/14 DePaul scores 124 points and drains 22 three-pointers in Monday’s win over Savannah State.

BIG EAST Notes - 11.27.18
Banner Night In Chicago

No. 16/14 DePaul celebrated its return to Chicago with a resounding 124-61 victory over Savannah State, setting all-time program records for most points in a game (124) and most three-pointers in a game (22). The 124 points scored are the most in a Division I matchup in the NCAA this season – with Savannah State (155) and Western Illinois (136) recording higher scores against non-D1 opponents. It matches the most in a D1 contest since Feb. 10, 2018, when Connecticut hung up 124 against Wichita State. Conveniently enough, the Blue Demons’ next opponent are the No. 2/2 Huskies (Wednesday, 7 p.m. ET). Rookie Lexi Held led all scorers with 28 points on the night, draining 5-of-10 from deep after entering the contest with just six total points through the first five games of the season. Six total Blue Demons reached double figures, with reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week Chante Stonewall reaching the 20-point mark for the second consecutive game.

RPI Revealed
The first NCAA RPI of the young season was unveiled on Tuesday, with six BIG EAST teams debuting in the top 100. Marquette led the way at No. 12, followed by No. 22 Butler and No. 27 DePaul. St. John’s came in at No. 39, with No. 82 Xavier and No. 100 Villanova rounding out the top 100. The BIG EAST was listed as the No. 7 league and finished the 2017-18 season ranked sixth.

In The Polls
The BIG EAST has two top-25 teams for a fourth consecutive week. DePaul led the way at No. 16 in the Associated Press Poll, marking the second consecutive week at the spot, while improving two slots to No. 14 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Marquette also remained unchanged in the AP Poll, holding steady at No. 22, while jumping two spots in the Coaches Poll to No. 17. Both teams have been ranked in all four polls of 2018-19.

Up Next
Seton Hall eyes its third 100-point outing of the season when the Pirates host UMass Lowell on Tuesday night. Butler scored 89 points against the River Hawks on Nov. 20, while SHU reached triple-figures in Sunday’s win over St. Francis (N.Y.). Providence will look to make it two in a row when it visits Boston College at 7 p.m. ET, with the Friars coming off a come-from-behind win over Sacred Heart on Wednesday. PC snapped BC’s 14-game series winning streak last season for the Friars’ first win over the Eagles since 1998.

This & That
  • After holding off Illinois State 58-56 on Sunday, Butler improved to 5-0 on the year for its best start since 1990-91 when the Bulldogs won their first 10 games
  • No. 22/17 Marquette relocated its game against UIC last Saturday to Fiserv Forum, the Milwaukee Bucks’ downtown arena, due to a car accident over the weekend which damaged The Al McGuire Center; Wednesday’s contest against UW-Milwaukee has been moved from The Al to UWM’s Klotsche Center and will now stream on ESPN3
  • Despite standing at just 5-5, Georgetown senior guard Dionna White is currently tied for the BIG EAST lead with three double-doubles of the point-rebound variety this season; along with White, Butler senior forward/center Tori Schickel (6-1) and Seton Hall junior forward Shadeen Samuels (6-0) also have three double-doubles; White currently leads the BIG EAST in rebounding (9.3) while Samuels leads the BIG EAST in scoring (19.3)
  • St. John’s Qadashah Hoppie made 17 free-throws against Ole Miss on Saturday, second-most in all of Division I this season; even more impressive, she made all 17 she attempted, as her 17-for-17 clip is the most makes without missing in a D1 game since Ke’Shunan James of Murray State went 20-for-20 on Nov. 18, 2017
