Fifteen semifinalists were announced on Tuesday, with Georgetown boasting a pair of nominees.

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University women’s soccer players Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) and Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day / UCLA) are among 15 women’s semifinalists in consideration for the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy, based on voting by NCAA Division I soccer coaches.

The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967. Most recently, Jon Bakero (Wake Forest) and Andi Sullivan (Stanford) received the award for outstanding intercollegiate performances during their senior seasons in 2017.

Three men’s finalists and three women’s finalists will be named on Dec. 7 in conjunction with the Men’s College Cup semifinals in Santa Barbara, Calif. The 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 4, 2019 to formally announce this year’s winners.

Schechtman was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year for the second year in a row and was an All-BIG EAST First Team honoree. On Monday, the senior was named to the United Soccer Coaches Division I All-East Regional First Team. Schechtman leads the nation in shutouts with 15 on the season and ranks second in GAA (.308) and save percentage (.917). She has registered 77 saves this season in the net. Additionally, Schechtman is the all-time career leader at Georgetown with 47 shutouts.

Farrell was unanimously selected as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and received the only unanimous vote to be on the All-BIG EAST First Team. The senior forward was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team and earned the Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the tournament. On Monday, she was named to the United Soccer Coaches Division I All-East Regional First Team. Farrell leads the Hoyas with 39 points from 18 goals and three assists. She is tied for first at Georgetown with most goals in a single season (18) and is second in the country in game-winning goals (8), third in total goals (18) and fourth in total points (39).

This is the eighth time in the last nine years that Georgetown has had a player selected as a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist, as Ingrid Wells (C’11) was recognized in 2010 and 2011, Emily Menges (C’14) was recognized in 2013, Daphne Corboz (C’14) was recognized in 2012 and 2014 and Rachel Corboz (C’18) was recognized in 2016 and 2017. This is the first time in program history that two Georgetown women’s soccer players were named as semifinalists in the same year.

The top-seeded Hoyas have advanced to the College Cup for the second time in three years. They defeated No. 2-seeded Baylor on Saturday 3-0 to move on to the semifinals in Cary, North Carolina. The Blue & Gray will face the No. 1-seeded University of North Carolina on Friday evening at 5 p.m. at the WakeMed Soccer Park. The game can be watched on ESPNU.
