WSOC Notes - 11.3.18
NEW YORK –
Georgetown’s Shaw Field will see a champion crowned for the third season in a row as the top-seeded Hoyas host second-seeded Butler in Sunday’s BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship final. GU defeated No. 4 seed Xavier, 3-1, while the Bulldogs bounced sixth-seeded Providence, 3-2, in Thursday’s semifinal matches to advance to Sunday’s title bout. This marks the second consecutive season GU and BU will play in the final at Shaw Field, with Georgetown eyeing its third consecutive crown. Butler has advanced to three of the last four championship matches, winning it all in 2015 in Omaha, while Georgetown claimed back-to-back trophies in 2016 and 2017. Sunday’s final will air live on FS1, with coverage beginning at 1 p.m. ET.

Sunday’s winner receives the BIG EAST’s automatic bid into the 2018 NCAA Championship. Monday’s NCAA Selection Show is slated for 4:30 p.m. ET on NCAA.com. The Hoyas have earned NCAA invites for six consecutive seasons, while the Bulldogs earned the program’s first at-large berth in 2017 for its second NCAA appearance. Georgetown currently ranks fourth in the latest NCAA RPI, while Butler is listed at 42. Other notable BIG EAST RPIs include Providence (49), DePaul (72) and Xavier (75).
