Top-seeded Hoyas defeat second-seeded Butler off the foot of Most Outstanding Offensive Player Caitlin Farrell.

BOX SCORE
WASHINGTON, D.C. –
Georgetown won its third consecutive BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship crown on Sunday at the Hoyas’ Shaw Field with a 1-0 victory over No. 2 seed Butler. The top-seeded Hoyas become the first BIG EAST team to three-peat since Notre Dame (1995-2001) and have guaranteed a seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship by claiming the Conference’s automatic berth. Named BIG EAST Championship Most Outstanding Offensive Player, Caitlin Farrell scored the game’s lone goal just 2:14 into the match, while Most Outstanding Defensive Player Kelly Ann Livingstone helped keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard for all 90 minutes.

Georgetown will learn its NCAA Championship First Round opponent on Monday afternoon, while Butler will wait to see if they receive an at-large berth. The selection show is slated for 4:30 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.

The Hoyas’ win not only keeps them undefeated on the season (17-0-3), but gives head coach Dave Nolan career win No. 200, the third active BIG EAST coach to reach the 200-win mark along with Ian Stone of St. John’s and Markus Roeders of Marquette. Nolan and Georgetown will make their ninth NCAA Championship appearance.

Farrell’s third-minute goal was her BIG EAST-leading 17th of the season and her league-best eighth of the game-winning variety. Georgetown outshot Butler 12-4 despite the Bulldogs constantly pressuring the Hoyas defense, particularly over the final 45 minutes.

Farrell tallied two goals and an assist in two BIG EAST Championship games this year, while Livingstone led the GU defense which surrendered just one goal and boasted a 34-8 advantage in shots.

In addition to major award winners Farrell and Livingstone, the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team included Amber Birchwell and Shelby Hogan of Providence, Samantha Dewey and Andie Kennard of Xavier, Butler’s Paige Monaghan, Halle Stelbasky and Annika Schmidt, and Georgetown’s Carson Nizialek and Kyra Carusa.
