Weekend In Review
BIG EAST women’s basketball teams combined for a 7-3 mark on a busy weekend which saw all 10 teams take the court. Five teams claimed their seventh wins of the season to match Seton Hall for the current conference high, while Creighton (three), DePaul (three), Villanova (four) and Xavier (five) all extended their multi-game winning streaks with weekend victories. Among the individual highlights, No. 18/15 Marquette’s Allazia Blockton broke the Golden Eagles’ program record in career points as MU won at RV/- Northwestern, Providence’s Jovana Nogic snapped the Friars’ career 3-point standard in a victory at UMass Lowell, Mary Gedaka was perfect from the floor in Villanova’s win over Temple and No. 20/17 DePaul’s Mart’e Grays joined the 1,000-point club with a career-high day as the Blue Demons won at Oklahoma.
Providence 71, UMass Lowell 47
After going scoreless in the first half of play, Jovana Nogic opened the third quarter with a three-point bucket and hit 5-6 attempts from beyond the arc in the stanza. Her second three of the game came and 253rdof her career set the Friar record. The flurry of hot shooting from Nogic fueled a 20-4 run by the Friars (5-3), to give PC a 51-30 lead with 4:08 remaining in the third. The Friars maintained control the rest of the way, growing their lead to as many as 26.

1/1 UConn 99, Seton Hall 61
The Pirates were out-scored by 32 in the first half but fought to the end and were only edged by six points in the second half. Nicole Jimenez led the Pirates with 23 points and freshman Danielle Robinson added a career-high 10. UConn shot 49.3 percent (34-69) from the floor and 40.0 percent (12-30) from 3-point range, while the Pirates finished with 35.7 percent (25-70) and 27.3 percent (9-33) marks

10/10 North Carolina State 76, Georgetown 57
Three Hoyas scored in double figures as Dionna White led all scorers with a season-high 25 points to go along with seven rebounds and four steals. Trailing seven at the half, the Hoyas started out strong at the beginning of the second half with 3-pointers from both Mikayla Venson and White, bringing the Wolfpack's lead down to just one, 41-40. NC State responded with an 11-0 run. Venson added 16 points on the afternoon while Dorothy Adomako scored 18.

Butler 63, Akron 47
Tori Schickel and Kristen Spolyar led Butler to a road win at Akron on Saturday afternoon. The duo combined to score 35 points in the outcome. With her efforts on Saturday, Schickel moved to ninth place at Butler (7-1) on the all-time scoring list (1,345). Schickel recorded her sixth double-double of the season against the Zips with 15 points to go along with a team-high 12 rebounds. She sparked the scoring run in the third quarter that pushed Butler over the top.

Creighton 83, Wichita State 71
Paced by a program-record 18 treys, including six from Wichita native Jaylyn Agnew, Creighton (4-4) won at Wichita State on Saturday. Agnew finished with a game-high 22 points and seven assists, while Temi Carda and Audrey Faber closed in double figures with 16 and 14 points respectively. The Bluejays shot .468 on the afternoon, their second-best outing of the season, while shooting 40 percent or better from three (.439) for the third time in 2018-19.

RV/RV Florida State 57, St. John’s 53
Trailing by 14 with just over six minutes to play, St. John's outscored Florida State 19-9 down the stretch but fell just short of completing the comeback at Carnesecca Arena Sunday afternoon. Alisha Kebbe paced the Red Storm with a team-high 17 points on a 5-of-13 shooting effort from the floor, draining 4-of-6 from long distance. The junior also brought down five boards while dishing out one assist as well as delivering one block in Sunday's contest. Qadashah Hoppie scored nine of her 14 points during that 19-9 run.

18/15 Marquette 76, RV/- Northwestern 57
History was made on Sunday as Allazia Blockton became Marquette's all-time scoring leader in the Golden Eagles’ win at Northwestern. Blockton entered the game needing 16 points to break the record of 1,940 career points, set by Krystal Ellis ('09). She finished the day with a team-high 21 points and has amassed 1,946 points in 106 career games played, likely to become the first 2,000-point scorer in Marquette history, male or female. MU (7-2) pressed Northwestern with their up-tempo style, scoring 21 points off fast breaks and connecting on 30-of-70 shots (42.9 percent).

20/17 DePaul 87, Oklahoma 76
Mart'e Grays paced the Blue Demons with a career- high 26 points off a career-high 12 field goals. The senior forward also became the program's 37th player to score 1,000 career points. Ashton Millender had 19 points and tied a career high with seven boards. DePaul (7-3) led by as many as 27 before the Sooners made a run to close the gap to single digits in the final moments of the third quarter, but the Blue Demons got the lead back up by 12 before a decisive four-minute scoreless stretch in the second part of the fourth quarter. The win was DePaul’s third straight, all by double figures.

Villanova 76, Temple 68
Despite shooting 52.0 percent in the first half, Villanova (7-2) trailed by one at the break. With the score tied at 46-46 with 2:44 left in the third, the Wildcats went on a 9-2 run to take a 55-48 advantage after three. The Wildcats put the game away during a three minute stretch in the fourth quarter when they used an 8-1 spurt to take a 12-point lead. In the win, Mary Gedaka recorded a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. The 22 points came on 7-of-7 shooting from the field, a 1-of-1 effort from three-point range and a 7-of-9 performance from the foul line. The win was Villanova’s fourth straight, while it improved to 3-0 in Big 5 play.

Xavier 80, Delaware State 59
A'riana Gray posted her third double-double in as many games and her fifth of the season (sixth of her career), scoring a game-high 17 points to go along with 13 rebounds. The forward was 5-for-8 from the floor with two 3-pointers, while going 5-for-8 from the foul line. She added three steals. Xavier never trailed in the Sunday afternoon contest and led by as many as 23 to improve to 7-1 on the year.
