BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Player Of the Week
Mary Gedaka, Villanova, Jr., F
Gedaka was nearly flawless in a 2-0 week for Villanova, making 13-of-15 attempts from the field for an 87-percent clip. In wins at George Washington and over Temple, the junior averaged 17.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists. She exploded for 22 points, 13 rebounds and three dimes in the Wildcats’ win over the Owls on Sunday, as Villanova extended its winning streak to four games. Gedaka was 7-for-7 from the field against Temple, marking the fourth perfect shooting outing in program history (minimum six attempts) and the second for the junior guard.
BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Freshman Of the Week
Lexi Held, DePaul, Fr., G
Held repeats as the BIG EAST’s top weekly rookie after averaging 11.0 points and .619 shooting in a 3-0 week for the nationally ranked Blue Demons. The freshman guard eclipsed double figures in two contests last week, highlighted by a 17-point outing at Oklahoma on Sunday as No. 20/17 DePaul won its third straight. She also scored 13 in Monday’s win over Temple. Held’s impressive numbers came in just 13.3 minutes per game off the bench.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Jaylyn Agnew, Creighton, Jr., F
In a 2-0 week for the Bluejays, Agnew averaged 17.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and .565 shooting. She drained six three-pointers at Wichita State on Saturday as Creighton broke the program record for made triples in a game with 18.
Mart’e Grays, DePaul, Sr., F
In a 3-0 week for the nationally ranked Blue Demons, Grays averaged 17.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 50-percent shooting, highlighted by a 26-point outing at Oklahoma on Sunday in which she passed the 1,000-career point mark.
Natisha Hiedeman, Marquette, Sr., G
Hiedeman stuffed the stat sheet in a 1-1 week for the Golden Eagles, averaging 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists. She scored 18 at No. 6/6 Mississippi State on Thursday before going for 17 points, 15 boards and six dishes in Sunday’s win at RV/- Northwestern.
Tori Schickel, Butler, Sr., F/C
Schickel posted back-to-back double-doubles in a 1-1 week for the Bulldogs, averaging 14.0 points and 12.5 rebounds, with the boards average the most in the BIG EAST last week by any player with multiple games under their belts. She totaled 13 points and 13 rebounds at RV/RV Indiana on Wednesday before adding 15 points and 12 boards in Saturday’s win at Akron.
Dionna White, Georgetown, Sr., G
The Hoyas’ upset bid of No. 10/10 North Carolina State came up just shy despite a game-high 25 points by White. The senior guard added seven boards and four steals against the Wolfpack.
