Three Schools Share First 2018-19 #BIGEASTtrack Weekly Honors
BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Joseph White, Georgetown, Grad., Middle Distance (Clifton, N.J.)
Fifth year runner Joseph White of Georgetown ran an indoor personal best in the 400 meter dash at the Navy Invitational on Dec. 1 with a time of 47.94. His first place finish leads the league during the early weeks of the 2018-19 season and is fourth best in the NCAA.
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Daniel Armstrong, Marquette, Jr., Jumps (Michigan City, Ind.)
Marquette junior Daniel Armstrong had an impressive season debut for the Golden Eagles as he took home gold at the UW-Parkside Fall Finale on Dec. 7 clearing the bar at a personal best 2.21 meters. His mark ranks second highest in the NCAA and was also the No. 2 mark all-time at Marquette.
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Breanne Marchan, Marquette, Jr., Sprints/Jumps (Pine River, Wis.)
Marquette junior Breanne Marchan marked three event wins for the weekend at the UW-Parkside Fall Finale, with all three results appearing on the NCAA leaderboards and all three marks personal records. In the 55-meter dash, Marchan finished at 7.10 seconds, ranking 44th in the NCAA, first in the conference. In the 200-meter sprint, she finished at 25.01 seconds, which ranks second in the BIG EAST and 18th in Division I. Off the track, this multi-event participant won the long jump with a distance of 5.78 meters, which leads the league and is 32nd in the NCAA. The three marks also rank in the Marquette records at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5, respectively.
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jennifer Odoemene, St. John’s, Sr., Throws (West Orange, N.J.)
St. John’s senior Jennifer Odoemene had two first place marks in the weight throw winning the event at the Fordham Lid Lifter (Dec. 7) and Bill Ward Invitational (Dec. 9). Her throw of 18.18 meters at the Bill Ward meet leads the BIG EAST and is 35th in the NCAA. It is also a personal best.
Notable Performances
- Butler senior Allie Vogeler won two individual events and a winning relay team at the Blue and Gold invitiational and Indiana State Early Bird meet. She won the 600-meter run at the Blue and Gold Invite (1:33.87) ranking sixth in the NCAA. Her time of 57.62 in the 400 meters at the Early Bird meet ranks 21st in the NCAA and leads the league.
- Bulldog teammate Jacob Uhl marked a league-best time of 22.99 in the 200-meter dash at the Indiana State Early Bird meet. He also rank a 50.15 400-meter win, a time that ranks fifth in the conference but 41st in the NCAA.
- DePaul’s Kyle Hedge threw 16.47 meters in the shot put at the Blue & Gold Invitational, winning the event and marking a career best which ranks 50th in the NCAA, first in the conference.
- Blue Demon teammate Emily Eller also put up NCAA numbers as she through to a third-best distance of 14.28 in the shot put at the Blue & Gold Invitational. Eller’s distance leads the conference and is 39th in the NCAA.
- Georgetown grad student Taylor Williams sprinted to a first-place time of 24.55 at the Navy Invitational on Dec. 1, a time that ranks 14th in the NCAA and first in the BIG EAST.
- Marquette’s Allie Flando through a first place distance of 13.71 meters in the shot put at the UW-Parkside Fall Finale on Dec. 7. Flando’s personal record ranked 75th on the NCAA leaderboard, second in the league.
