NEW YORK – A record three BIG EAST Volleyball players were selected to the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Google Cloud Academic All-America teams. The BIG EAST has never had more than one volleyball player honored in a single season. Marquette junior Allie Barber earned a first team distinction, while Creighton senior Jaali Winters and Taryn Kloth were on the second and third team, respectively.
Barber, a biomedical science major, holds a 3.99 grade point average. This is her first recognition as an Academic All-American. The outside hitter guided the Golden Eagles to a 28-7 overall record this season (15-2 BIG EAST) and a berth in the NCAA Regional Semifinal for the first time in program history. She led the league this year and was 12
th nationally in kills per set at 4.67, while also hitting .376. Barber is the first Marquette volleyball player to earn Academic All-America honors since Elizabeth Koberstein earned second team accolades in 2013.
Creighton is just one of only two schools nationwide with multiple volleyball Academic All-Americans, joining LSU. Winters and Kloth guided the Bluejays (29-5, 18-0 BIG EAST) to five straight regular season and tournament titles this season.
As a business intelligence and analytics major, Winters maintains a 3.90 GPA. She was also honored on the second team in 2017. The BIG EAST Player of the Year averaged 3.82 kills and 3.06 digs per set. Winters becomes Creighton volleyball's first two-time Academic All-American, and the eighth in Creighton history across all sports to be recognized multiple times.
Kloth owns a 3.86 GPA in finance and has been selected for the first time as an Academic All-American. The All-BIG EAST First Team member averaged 4.15 kills per set and also had a .283 hitting percentage. Kloth is also a final candidate for the Senior CLASS Award to be presented this weekend.
Fourteen of the 22 members of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Women’s Volleyball Teams have a GPA of 4.00 or higher, while 18 of the 22 members maintain at least a 3.90 GPA.
