MBB Minute -- Home Teams Happy, Road Teams Disappointed on Tuesday
The four league teams playing at home enjoyed Tuesday night, not so much for the two teams that were on the road.
Marquette, ranked 20th by AP and 23rd by USA Today, won its sixth in a row, defeating North Dakota 92-66. The Golden Eagles (9-2) got a game-high 26 points from Markus Howard on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor. Freshman Joey Hauser added 21 points and Ed Morrow contributed 18 points and eight boards. Marquette hosts Buffalo, ranked 14th by AP, on Friday night.
Providence started slowly against Albany, then dominated the second half en route to a 73-43 victory. Alpha Diallo posted his league-leading fourth double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Maliek White added 18 points. The Friars (9-3) outscored Albany 50-23 in the second half.
Butler also got off to a slow start against Presbyterian, falling behind by 14 points, before recovering to win 76-67. Guard Aaron Thompson scored a career-high 18 points and dished seven assists. Kamar Baldwin finished with 15 points. The Bulldogs (8-3) have won 49 straight against non-conference opponents at home.
Georgetown pulled away in the final two minutes to seal an 83-73 victory over Appalachian State. Guards provided the scoring punch for the Hoyas (8-3) with James Akinjo (17 points), Mac McClung (14) and Greg Malinowski (11).
Creighton went into its game at Oklahoma leading the nation in 3-point shooting, but missed its first 12 shots from beyond the arc in an 83-70 loss. Martin Krampelj was the bright spot for the Bluejays (7-4) with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Xavier got off to a 9-3 start at Missouri, but the Tigers responded with a 17-0 run and beat the Musketeers 71-56. Guard Quentin Goodin scored a career-high 21 points and had six assists for Xavier (7-5).
The Wednesday schedule shows three games. St. John’s goes for an 11-0 start when it hosts St. Francis, N.Y. at 6:30 p.m. ET on FS1. FS2 has a doubleheader of Sacred Heart at Seton Hall (7-3) at 6:30 p.m. followed by Incarnate Word at DePaul (7-2) at 8:30 p.m.
