Marquette's Howard, Georgetown's McClung Earn #BIGEASTmbb Weekly Honors
NEW YORK – Marquette’s Markus Howard and Georgetown’s Mac McClung have earned BIG EAST weekly men’s basketball honors. Howard has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and McClung has been chosen BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Both guards enjoyed superlative scoring performances in leading their teams to victories.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Markus Howard, Marquette, G, Jr. – Howard averaged 35.5 points, shot 13-of-19 from 3-point range and 16-of-16 from the foul line in a 2-0 week. He scored 45 points, including 40 points in the second half, in a 103-85 victory over No. 14 Buffalo. The junior guard scored 25 straight points for his team in a span of 5:27. He also scored 26 points in a 92-66 win against North Dakota. Howard leads the BIG EAST in scoring with a 25.0 average.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Mac McClung, Georgetown, G, Fr. – McClung poured in a collegiate-best 38 points in a 102-94 overtime victory over Little Rock. The freshman, who connected on a 4-point play in the extra period, made 4-of-9 from 3-point range and 14-of-16 from the foul line. Earlier in the week, McClung had 14 points in an 83-73 win against Appalachian State. He has started every game this season and is averaging 12.3 points.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Alpha Diallo, Providence, G, Jr.
Scored 20 points in both victories of a 2-0 week, a win versus Albany (73-43) and victory at Texas (71-65). Also had 10 rebounds in the Albany contest.
Marvin Clark II, St. John’s, F, Jr.
Averaged 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in a 2-0 week. Shot 55.6 percent from the field and 53.3 percent from 3-point range. Had 23 points, all in the first half, in a win against Sacred Heart (104-82).
Myles Powell, Seton Hall, G, Jr.
Scored a game-high 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a win at Maryland (78-74) and averaged 21.0 points in a 2-0 week.
Phil Booth, Villanova, G, Sr.
Had 18 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the field and recorded seven rebounds and seven assists in an 81-58 win against Connecticut.
Quentin Goodin, Xavier, G, Jr.
Averaged 21.5 points, 7.5 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals in a 1-1 week. Had 22 points, nine rebounds and nine assists in a win over Detroit Mercy (69-55).
