Marquette's Howard, Providence's Reeves Take #BIGEASTmbb Honors

NEW YORK – Marquette guard Markus Howard has been selected BIG EAST Player of the Week and Providence guard A.J. Reeves has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.  Howard helped Marquette to a 2-0 week which included a win over No. 12 Kansas State and Reeves sparked Providence to a 2-0 week, including a victory against in-state rival Rhode Island.   

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Markus Howard, Marquette, G, Jr. – Howard scored 45 points, the second highest single-game point total in Marquette history, in an 83-71 win against No. 12 Kansas State.  He shot 11-of-17 from the field and 19-of-21 from the foul line.  Howard also scored a team-high 17 points in a 76-55 victory over Charleston Southern.  For the two games, he averaged 31.0 points and 4.5 rebounds.  For the week, the junior averaged 31.0 points while shooting 51.5 percent from the floor and 90.5 percent from the line.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
A.J. Reeves, Providence, G, Fr. -- Reeves wins Freshman of the Week honors for the third time in four weeks this season.  In a 2-0 week for the Friars, he averaged 11.5 points and 3.5 rebounds.  In a 59-50 win over Rhode Island, Reeves scored a team-high 15 points.  For the season, he remains the BIG EAST’s top freshman scorer with a 13.8 average and is shooting 48 percent from 3-point range.

Ty-Shon Alexander, Creighton, G, So.
Scored 27 points and dished five assists in a 103-92 loss to No. 1 Gonzaga.  Averaged 20.0 points and 4.0 assists in a 1-1 week.     
Jessie Govan, Georgetown, F, Sr.
Recorded a season-high 29 points (11-15 FG, 7-7 FT) in a 90-82 victory over Richmond. 
Eli Cain, DePaul, G, Sr.
Tallied a season-high 26 points in an 83-73 win against Cleveland State.  Shot 9-of-14 from the field and 3-of-6 from 3-point range.    
Shamorie Ponds, St. John’s, G, Jr.
Scored a season-high 37 points, including nine straight points late in a 76-73 victory over Georgia Tech.  Averaged 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a 2-0 week.          
Eric Paschall, Villanova, F, Sr.
Scored 27 points and grabbed four rebounds in an 82-75 win against La Salle at the Palestra.
