Xavier's Marshall, Georgetown's LeBlanc Earn MBB Weekly Honors
NEW YORK – Xavier forward Naji Marshall has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Georgetown forward Josh LeBlanc has been selected BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Marshall led the Musketeers to a conference road win while LeBlanc had a double-double in a home court victory.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Naji Marshall, Xavier, F, So. – Marshall led Xavier to a win in its conference opener, a 74-65 decision at DePaul. The sophomore scored a game-high 19 points, grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds, dished four assists and helped the Musketeers close the game with a 19-4 run. Marshall, an All-BIG EAST Freshman Team honoree last season, is averaging 13.0 points and 8.1 rebounds this year. His rebound average is tied for second in the BIG EAST.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Josh LeBlanc, Georgetown, F, Fr. – LeBlanc posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds in a 102-67 victory over Howard in the Hoyas’ only game of the week. The freshman made all seven of his shots from the floor while playing only 26 minutes. For the season, LeBlanc is averaging 9.8 points and 8.1 boards. His rebound average is tied for second in the BIG EAST with Xavier’s Marshall. He also leads Georgetown with 16 steals and 15 blocks.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Martin Krampelj, Creighton, F, Jr.
Had 11 points and eight rebounds in only 20 minutes of action in an 89-53 victory against UMKC.
Jessie Govan, Georgetown, C, Sr.
Posted 23 points and 10 rebounds in a 102-67 victory over Howard. Made 10-of-16 from the field.
Markus Howard, Marquette, G, Jr.
Scored 26 points in 16 minutes in an 84-41 victory over Southern. Shot 9-of-10 from the floor and 6-of-6 from 3-point range.
Mustapha Heron, St. John’s, G, Jr.
Had 19 points, three rebounds and three steals in a 76-74 loss at Seton Hall. Shot 4-of-8 from 3-point range.
Michael Nzei, Seton Hall, F, Sr.
Produced 14 points, a game-high 10 rebounds and two blocked shots in a 76-74 victory over St. John’s.
