WBB Notes - 12.4.18
Marquette Makes History

Sporting a 6-1 record, Marquette improved its position in both national polls this week, claiming the program’s highest ever ranking. The Golden Eagles earned an empathic win over then-RV/RV Michigan on Sunday and moved up two spots in Tuesday’s USA Today Coaches Poll to No. 15 – topping their previous best of No. 16, set in the Associated Press Top 25 in January of 2007, and matched last season (11/14/17). MU’s previous best Coaches Poll ranking was No. 17, also set in Jan. 2007. Marquette moved up four spots in this week’s AP Poll to No. 18. DePaul joined MU in the top 25, landing at No. 20 in the AP Top 25 and No. 17 in the Coaches Poll. The Blue Demons have been in the top 20 all five weeks of this season.

Formidable Foes
Three top-10 teams are on the schedule this week for BIG EAST squads, beginning on Thursday when No. 18/15 Marquette (6-1) visits No. 6/6 Mississippi State. Saturday sees two showdowns against ranked teams as Georgetown (5-4) hosts No. 10/10 North Carolina State, while Seton Hall (7-1) visits the nation’s uncontested top-ranked squad – Connecticut.

Up Next
Butler, one of Division I’s 23 remaining undefeated teams, takes its unbeaten (6-0) mark on the road for the first time for its toughest test of the season when the Bulldogs face RV/RV Indiana on Wednesday. Tipoff in Bloomington is slated for 7 p.m. ET. Creighton (2-4), which defeated Nebraska on Sunday, will look to pick up back-to-back wins over local foes when it welcomes Nebraska-Omaha at 8 p.m., while No. 20/17 DePaul (5-3) aims to claim yet another quality win when it welcomes RV/- Northwestern to McGrath-Phillips Arena at 8 p.m. The Blue Demons’ previous victories this season include Green Bay, which ranks 49th in the latest NCAA RPI.
