Seton Hall's Khadeen Carrington Scored 23 Points in the Win over Providence
MBB Minute -- Seton Hall Takes Providence, Butler Wins at Marquette
Seton Hall and Butler both built 15-point leads by halftime in their wins on Wednesday. The Pirates defeated Providence 73-57 and Butler won at Marquette 92-72.
The Pirates (17-5, 6-3) used a 19-0 run in the first half to pull away from the visiting Friars. Khadeen Carrington had a strong game with 23 points, seven assists and only one turnover in 36 minutes. Angel Delgado kept adding to his record BIG EAST career rebound total with a game-high 14 boards. He also scored 13 points for his 66th career double-double. Seton Hall’s 6-3 BIG EAST mark is its best after nine games since 2006. Alpha Diallo was the brightest light for Providence (14-8, 5-4) with a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds.
Butler shot 60 percent from the field in its win at Marquette. Tyler Wideman, who entered the game leading the BIG EAST in field goal percentage, converted on eight of nine field goal attempts and made all seven of his free throws en route to a career-high 23 points. He also pulled down nine rebounds. Kelan Martin added 16 points and Kamar Baldwin helped with 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. For Marquette, Markus Howard broke out of a short shooting slump with a game-high 26 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor.
Creighton at No. 1 Villanova is the lone game on the Thursday schedule. FS1 has the telecast at 6:30 p.m. The two teams last met in the 2017 BIG EAST Tournament title game with the Wildcats winning 74-60. Both squads are in the top 10 in scoring offense. Villanova ranks fifth at 87.8 ppg and Creighton is tied for sixth at 86.5 ppg. Jalen Brunson is the Wildcats’ deft conductor. He ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in scoring (19.4 ppg), third in 3-point shooting percentage (.472), third in assists (5.0) and first in assist/turnover ratio (+3.4). Creighton has never defeated a top-ranked team, but the Bluejays have three wins this season over top 25 opponents. CU’s Marcus Foster ranks second in the league in scoring with a 19.9 average.
