On a Saturday when nine BIG EAST players scored 24 points or more, St. John’s Shamorie Ponds led the crowd with 44 points – tying the fifth highest scoring total in a BIG EAST game – in the Red Storm’s 86-78 win over Marquette (14-11, 5-8) at Carnesecca Arena.  Ponds’ scoring blast also broke the Carnesecca record.  Marquette’s Andrew Rowsey posted the second best scoring output of the day with 34 points.  After losing 11 in a row, St. John’s (13-13, 2-11) has won three straight.
 
The Villanova-Butler game had two players reach 30 points, Butler’s Kelan Martin and Villanova’s Donte DiVincenzo.  The Wildcats outscored the Bulldogs 51-37 in the second half to record an 86-75 victory at a sold-out Wells Fargo Center.  Villanova (23-2, 10-2) was supported by Jalen Brunson’s 27 points.  Butler (17-9, 7-6) got 25 from Kamar Baldwin. 
 
At a sold-out CenturyLink Center, Creighton’s Marcus Foster poured in 29 points, but Xavier came away with a 72-71 win when Quentin Goodin made two free throws with 0.3 seconds remaining.  Creighton (18-7, 8-5) had taken the lead with 4.6 seconds left after Ronnie Harrell Jr. made three from the line.  Goodin’s free throws gave himself a career-high 17 points.  J.P. Macura added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Musketeers (23-3, 11-2), who own an eight-game winning streak. 
 
Myles Powell had 25 points and Desi Rodriquez had 24 which helped Seton Hall overcome a 17-point deficit and take a late lead at Georgetown, but the Hoyas’ Marcus Derrickson connected on a 3-pointer with 4.5 seconds left to give the Hoyas (14-10, 4-9) an 83-80 victory.  Derrickson also had a game-high 18 rebounds.  Jamorko Pickett added 18 points.   
 
DePaul picked up an 80-63 road win at Providence.  For the third straight game, Marin Maric led the Blue Demons (10-14, 3-9) in scoring.  He finished with 18 points and eight rebounds.  DePaul scored 18 of the first 20 points in the second half to pull away for the victory.  All three Blue Demon league wins have come on the road.  Providence (16-9, 7-5) was led by Nate Watson’s 14 points. 
 
BIG EAST play picks up again on Tuesday with Georgetown visiting Butler at 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.  Creighton steps outside league play with a game against Bemidji State at 8 p.m. on FS2.
