Marcus Derrickson tied a career high with 27 points and reserve Trey Dickerson added a Georgetown-best 18 points to propel the Hoyas to an 87-83 win at Butler on Tuesday. Jessie Govan helped with 17 points and 12 rebounds for his 12th double-double of the season. Georgetown (15-10, 5-9) has won consecutive league game for the first time this year.
Kelan Martin led Butler (17-10, 7-7) with 22 points and became the 41st player in BIG EAST history to reach 1,000 career points in league games. He has 1,004 points. Tyler Wideman helped the Bulldog cause with 19 points and six rebounds.
In the final non-league game of the regular season involving a BIG EAST team, Creighton beat Bemidji State 94-46. Jacob Epperson came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points. Marcus Foster had 12 points and eight rebounds. No Bluejay played more than 21 minutes.
Creighton’s victory gave the BIG EAST a 103-23 (.817) non-league record. The winning percentage is the third best in conference history. The two top non-conference marks came in 1984-85 (.836) and 1988-89 (.831).
Valentine’s Day shows three BIG EAST games with FS1 presenting a doubleheader – No. 3 Villanova at Providence at 7 p.m. ET followed by Seton Hall at No. 4 Xavier at 9 p.m. St. John’s visits DePaul at 9 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. Xavier’s Trevon Bluiett can join Kelan Martin in the 1,000-point BIG EAST club if he scores 16 or more points.
Villanova defeated Providence 89-69 on Jan. 23 in the first meeting this season between the two teams. Xavier won at Seton Hall 73-64 on Jan. 20. DePaul beat St. John’s 91-74 at Carnesecca Arena on Jan. 6.
