MBB Minute -- Seton Hall Wins Suspended Game, Four Battles Set for Saturday
Seton Hall defeated Providence Thursday afternoon 89-77 in the completion of the first suspended game in BIG EAST basketball history. The game was finished in Alumni Hall on the PC campus after slippery conditions at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center on Wednesday forced the game to be suspended with 13:03 to play in the second half.
With Seton Hall holding a 56-47 lead when play resumed on Thursday, the Friars cut the advantage to 59-58 before the Pirates pulled away. The point guards for both teams, Seton Hall’s Khadeen Carrington and Providence’s Kyron Cartwright, each scored 25 points. The Hall’s Angel Delgado posted his 19th double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Going into the weekend, there is a logjam in the middle of the standings. Butler holds third place at 9-7, then Seton Hall, Providence and Creighton are all 8-7, followed by Marquette in seventh at 7-8.
Saturday’s four-game afternoon slate includes a doubleheader on FOX. At noon ET, Seton Hall plays St. John’s at Madison Square Garden followed by Villanova at Creighton at 2:30 p.m. Two more games also tip at noon – Providence at Georgetown on CBS Sports Network and Marquette at DePaul on FSN.
In the first meetings this season among the Saturday matchups, Seton Hall beat St. John’s 75-70 on Dec. 31, Villanova topped Creighton 98-78 on Feb. 1, Providence defeated Georgetown 73-69 on Feb. 6 and Marquette beat DePaul 70-52 on Jan. 15.
