Seton Hall’s Carrington, Xavier’s Marshall Take Weekly MBB Honors
NEW YORK – Seton Hall guard Khadeen Carrington has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Xavier forward Naji Marshall has been tabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Carrington led the Pirates to a pair of road wins and Marshall, who has taken Freshman honors in four of the last seven weeks, helped the Musketeers win at Georgetown in Xavier’s only game of the week.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Khadeen Carrington, Seton Hall, G, Sr. – Carrington averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in leading the Pirates to two road victories. He shot 52.0 percent from the field and 13-of-14 from the foul line for the two contests. In an 89-77 victory at Providence, the senior scored 25 points in a suspended game that took two days to play. In an 81-74 overtime win over St. John’s at Madison Square Garden, Carrington had 22 points, six rebounds and four assists. For the season, he is averaging 14.2 points and 4.4 assists.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Naji Marshall, Xavier, F, Fr. – In Xavier’s only game of the week, Marshall tallied a collegiate-high 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field in an 89-77 triumph at Georgetown. He also posted seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. For the year, Marshall is averaging 8.7 points, while shooting 55.6 percent from the floor, and 3.8 rebounds. He has won BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors in four of the last seven weeks.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Kelan Martin, Butler, F, Sr.
Scored a game-high 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field and 5-of-7 from 3-point range in a 93-70 win over Creighton. Also grabbed seven rebounds.
Max Strus, DePaul, F, Jr.
Averaged 20.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Had 20 points and 11 rebounds in a 70-62 win over Marquette.
Khyri Thomas, Creighton, G, Jr.
Averaged 19.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Had 24 points in an 89-83 overtime win versus Villanova. Shot 14-of-20 from the field for the week.
Kyron Cartwright, Providence, G, Sr.
In a 1-1 week, averaged 20.5 points, 7.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds. Had 16 points and nine assists in a 74-69 win at Georgetown.
Mikal Bridges, Villanova, F, Jr.
Averaged 21.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Had 27 points and seven boards in a 93-62 victory over DePaul.
