NEW YORK – BIG EAST women’s basketball regular-season honors continued to roll out on Wednesday with the announcement of the All-BIG EAST Teams. Twenty different student-athletes were recognized across the All-BIG EAST First Team, Second Team, Honorable Mention and All-Freshman Team, which were chosen by a vote of the league’s head coaches.
BIG EAST Player of the Year Allazia Blockton was the lone unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team, as the Marquette junior guard continued her sweep of Conference awards. Blockton won the BIG EAST scoring title after finishing league play with a 19.2 average to go along with 55 percent shooting and five double-doubles. She led Marquette to a share of its first BIG EAST regular-season title and earned a pair of BIG EAST Player of the Week certificates, one of just two players to repeat this year. This is Blockton’s second All-BIG EAST First Team honor.
Fellow BIG EAST regular-season champion DePaul placed two on the All-BIG EAST First Team – sophomore guard Kelly Campbell and junior forward Mart’e Grays. Campbell is the lone player in the BIG EAST this season to register a triple-double and is one the most complete players in the league, averaging a double-double (10.3 points, 10.3 rebounds) while leading the BIG EAST in assists (6.2). Grays rebounded after missing all of last season with an injury by finishing BIG EAST play with the sixth-best scoring average (15.2), while her overall mark (14.4) leads the high-scoring Blue Demon offense. Both Campbell and Grays earned BIG EAST Player of the Week certificates this season.
