Mike Madsen, St. John’s, So., A (Locust Valley, N.Y.)
St. John’s sophomore Mike Madsen helped the Red Storm to its third straight win on Saturday, a 12-5 defeat of Dartmouth at home with a league-best five points for the week. Madsen scored four goals and added an assist for a career high point total. Two of his goals came on extra man opportunities. Madsen bookended a 4-0 start to the game for the Red Storm with his fifth and sixth goals of the season.
BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week
Sean Mayle, Denver, Sr., LSM (San Carlos, Calif.)
Denver senior long stick middie Sean Mayle had a well-rounded stat line in then-No. 5/6 Denver’s 12-7 win over then-No. 18/19 Ohio State. Mayle had two goals, six ground balls and two caused turnovers. With his six, Mayle tied a career high in ground balls. Mayle was one of Denver’s five multi-goal scorers. It was the first multi-goal game of his career.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Matt Hanley, St. John’s, Sr., GK (Bethpage, N.Y.)
St. John’s senior goalie Matt Hanley earned his fifth win of the season on Saturday, 12-5 over Dartmouth at home. Hanley turned away 10 shots and had a league-best save percentage with .667. Hanley also boasted a 5.15 goals against average, a league-high for the week among starters. His five goals allowed in the game was a season-low for the Red Storm goalie.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Griffin Fleming, Marquette, RS-Fr., A (Bryn Mawr, Pa.)
Marquette freshman Griffin Fleming scored a hat trick in the 12-7 loss at Michigan, his first goals of his Golden Eagle career. His three goals were a team best for Marquette in Saturday’s road contest. Fleming also picked up four ground balls against the Wolverines, also a team high.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Austin French, Denver, Jr., A (Danville, Calif.)
French led the Pioneers in points with four assists, including three during Denver’s decisive nine-goal run in a 12-7 win over Ohio State.
Dylan Johnson, Denver, Jr., D (Englewood, Colo.)
Led a defense that allowed just 27 shots, 11 on goal in a 12-7 win for Denver over Ohio State. Johnson picked up two ground balls and led Denver with three caused turnovers.
Jake Carraway, Georgetown, So., A (Annapolis, Md.)
Carraway led the Hoyas with four goals in a 15-10 setback at Drexel. It was his seventh multi-goal game of the season.
Justin Corpolongo, St. John’s, Sr., FO (Somers, N.Y.)
Won a team-best seven draws and collected six ground balls in a 12-5 home win over Dartmouth on Saturday.
Connor Kirst, Villanova, So., M (Bernardsville, N.J.)
Kirst scored a career high four goals in a 13-11 loss to No. 2 Maryland on Saturday. Kirst took just nine shots and picked up one ground ball. He also won two faceoffs. His fourth goal came during a 3-0 run by Villanova with under a minute left.
