NEW YORK -- The BIG EAST went a perfect 8-0 over the past week which was highlighted by four teams representing the league in the national rankings. Denver stayed steady around No. 6/5, Villanova also stayed strong at No. 7 in both polls, Marquette is ranked No. 18/19 and Georgetown jumped into rankings at No. 17.
No. 18/19 Marquette started the weekend with an 8-7 overtime win over Ohio State in Michigan on Friday afternoon. John Wagner scored with 1:18 remaining in overtime to give the Golden Eagles the win. Marquette led 7-5 entering the fourth quarter.
St. John’s kicks off Saturday with a 10:30 a.m. ET game at No. 12/10 North Carolina. Also on Saturday, No. 6/5 Denver plays on the road at Furman at noon. At 1 p.m. No. 17 Georgetown plays at Hofstra, No. 7 Villanova at Delaware and Providence travels to Sacred Heart.
On Sunday, Marquette will play again, this time against Bellarmine, still in Michigan.
