BIG EAST Attack Player of the Week
John Wagner, Marquette, Jr., A (St. Davids, Ontario)
Marquette junior John Wagner scored a game-high four goals, including the walk-off goal 35 seconds into overtime as the Golden Eagles won the first BIG EAST conference game of the season, 9-8 OT, over then-No. 16/18 Georgetown. Wagner scored in the first, second and third quarters before posting his third game winner of the year in overtime. He also scored the winning goals against Jacksonville on Feb. 17 with under 10 seconds remaining and in overtime against then-No. 4/6 Ohio State on March 2.
BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week
Trevor Baptiste, Denver, Sr., FO (Denville, N.J.)
Denver senior Trevor Baptiste score two goals, seven seconds apart, to give Denver its first lead of the game against rv/rv Towson on Saturday, helping Denver to a 11-10 OT win over the Tigers. Baptiste also picked up seven ground balls and won 21 of 24 face-off draws. At the X, Baptiste forced Towson into seven faceoff violations. Baptiste became the third player in NCAA Division I history to reach 1,000 faceoff wins in his career, he moved up to second in NCAA history in career ground balls with 558.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Cole Blazer, Marquette, Sr., G (Libertyville, Ill.
Marquette senior goalie Cole Blazer made a season-best 15 saves to help the Golden Eagles defeat No. 16/18 Georgetown in overtime on Saturday, marking the first league win of the season. For the week, Blazer led the conference in goals against average (7.92), save percentage (.652) and saves per game (15.00). He made three saves in the first, second and fourth quarter, while also posting six in the third period as Marquette held off the Hoyas. His save total is the second highest single game mark in his career and is only topped by his 18 last season against Ohio State.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Keegan Khan, Villanova, Fr. A (Chatham, N.J.)
Of the 13 goals Villanova scored to defeat Fairfield, 13-12 in overtime at home on Saturday, Wildcat freshman Khan scored six of the them. Khan, with teammate Danny Seibel made up 12 of Villanova’s 13 goals. Khan’s six goals ties with two others for second most scored in a game this season for a BIG EAST player.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Ethan Walker, Denver, So., A (Peterborough, Ontario)
Walker scored five goals and added an assist in Denver’s 11-10 overtime win over Towson on Saturday. He scored four of his eight goals in an 8-1 run that sent Denver from down 5-1 to ahead 9-6.
Daniel Bucaro, Georgetown, Jr., A (East Setauket, N.Y.)
Bucaro led the Hoyas with five goals in the 9-8 overtime loss to Marquette in the BIG EAST opener. He has notched at least five goals twice so far in 2018.
Joe Madsen, St. John’s, So., A (Locust Valley, N.Y.)
Madsen led the way in scoring for St. John’s with a hat trick in a 9-8 upset victory over No. 19/18 Hofstra. The sophomore leads the Red Storm in scoring with 21 goals.
Matt Hanley, St. John’s, Sr., G (Bethpage, N.Y.)
Hanley marked his sixth win of the season between the pipes for St. John’s with 12 saves and a 8.00 goals against average and a .600 save percentage as he helped St. John’s to a 9-8 upset victory over No. 19/18 Hofstra on Saturday. Hanley made a crucial save on a penalty kill with less than two minutes to play to help set up the game-winning goal.
Danny Seibel, Villanova, Sr., A (Wakefield, Mass.)
Seibel scored six goals, including the game-winner with three minutes left in overtime, to help Villanova defeat Fairfield, 13-12. Seibel and Keegan Khan made up 12 of Villanova’s 13 goals. Seibel’s six goals ties with two others for second most scored in a game this season for a BIG EAST player.
