NEW YORK After the first weekend of BIG EAST play, DePaul’s Megan Leyva and Pat Moore were named BIG EAST Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
 
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Megan Leyva, DePaul, Sr., RF
Collecting BIG EAST Player of the Week Honors for the second time this season, Leyva carried the Blue Demons to a 3-0 weekend in BIG EAST play. Belting two home runs and a pair of doubles, the senior provided four key runs for DePaul. For the week, Leyva led the team with a 1.300 slugging percentage and .500 batting average, registering five hits, four RBI and three runs.


BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Pat Moore, DePaul, Fr.
The freshman garners BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for the second time in three weeks after reaching 100 career strikeouts against Seton Hall on Saturday. Racking up 11 Ks in seven innings, Moore only allowed two hits and one earned run as the Blue Demons secured a 6-1 victory in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader. Offensively, Moore batted .333, picking up a run and a career-high two steals. In Sunday’s contest, Moore pitched one hitless inning
, adding another strikeout to her resume. On the season, Moore sits at 7-4 with a BIG EAST-leading 102 strikeouts in 79.1 innings of work.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
Miranda Trinidad, Providence, So., P
Facing Georgetown in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, the sophomore struck out two batters and allowed one run as the Friars secured a 2-1 victory to sweep the series.

Julianne Rurka, Providence, Sr., INF
In the series sweep over Georgetown, Rurka led the way offensively with a .333 batting average, collecting three RBI and a double. Overall, in a trio of games last week Rurka batted .250 with four RBI.
Janae Barracato, Seton Hall, Fr., OF
Opening up BIG EAST play with a pair of home runs, Barracato finished her four-game week with a .357 batting average, five hits, two RBI and three runs.
