#BEtennis: St. John's and Marquette Share Weekly Honors
NEW YORK – St. John’s Daniel Skripnik and Marquette’s Paula Tormos Sanchez garner Men’s and Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week, respectively.
BIG EAST Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
Daniel Skripnik, St. John’s, Jr.
Skripnik shined with a perfect weekend in both singles and doubles play as the Johnnies claimed a pair of team wins over Marquette and Monmouth. With the match against the Golden Eagles tied 3-3, all eyes turned to court six. Playing in his first singles match in over a year, following a pair of surgeries that sidelined the junior, Skripnik dropped the opening set, 6-4, but rallied to claim the second in convincing fashion, 6-2, to send the final match into a fitting tiebreaker. In the final set, the junior held off his opponent for a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win, sealing the team victory in the process. Earlier in the match, Skripnik captured a doubles victory against the Golden Eagles with a 6-3 triumph at the No. 3 position. In a 4-2 victory over Monmouth, the junior delivered again with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles to cement the weekend sweep for the Red Storm.

In Marquette’s lone match for the week, Tormos Sanchez led the Golden Eagles past BIG EAST foe Butler with victories at the No. 1 singles position and at No. 2 doubles.
