#BIGEASTbase Honors Awarded To St. John’s Boselli And Georgetown’s Swad
NEW YORK – BIG EAST Player of the Week honors were awarded to St. John’s catcher/designated hitter Robert Boselli III, while Pitcher of the Week honors went to Georgetown senior reliever Jimmy Swad.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Robert Boselli III, St. John’s, Sr., C/DH (Ventnor, N.J.)
In a 3-1 week for St. John’s, senior catcher/DH Robert Boselli III hit .500 (8-for-16) with five runs scored, seven RBI, four doubles a triple and four walks. His overall slugging for the week was .875 with an on-base percentage of .609. In league play, St. John’s swept Villanova on the road taking early control of first place. Boselli batted .455 (5-for-11) against the Wildcats with three runs, three RBI (one in each win) and three doubles with .727 slugging and .538 on-base percentage. The Red Storm senior currently sports an eight-game hitting streak to go along with a 20-game reached base streak.
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Jimmy Swad, Georgetown, Sr., RHP (Relief) (Washington, D.C.)
Georgetown reliever Jimmy Swad came on in relief twice in the series win against Xavier earning two wins in 5.2 innings pitched. In the second game of Friday’s doubleheader, Swad came into the game in the seventh inning and fired 2.2 hitless innings as the Hoyas walked off with a 2-1 victory in 10 innings. Swad struck out three and earned the win while combining with the starter for a 10-inning one-hitter, Georgetown’s first one-hitter since 2015. In Saturday’s finale, Swad came back to the mound and battled through three innings, allowing one run on three hits with two more strikeouts. He picked up the win as he pitched the ninth, 10th and 11th innings as Georgetown earned their second-straight walk-off win, 5-4. He threw 88 pitches total, 40 on Friday, 48 on Saturday.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Tyler Houston, Butler, Sr., OF (Brownsburg, Ind.)
Houston helped Butler split a two-game weekend series with Creighton as he hit .625 (5-of-8) with a homer run, two RBI (one in each game), a walk and a stolen base.
Thomas Luevano, Creighton, Jr., 3B (Santa Clarita, Calif.)
Luevano led the Bluejas to a 2-1 record last week with a team-best .417 at the plate (5-for-12). He tied for the team lead with three RBI and added a run scored during the week.
Kevin Magee, St. John’s, Sr., LHP (starter) (Pompton Lakes, N.J.)
Magee threw eight scoreless innings in St. John’s Saturday win over Villanova allowing just one hit and a pair of walks. Magee struck out 10, nine swinging. He surrendered one hit in the first inning before facing 24-consecutive batters without allowing a base knock.
Connor Hood, Seton Hall, So., 1B (Shrewsbury, Pa.)
Hood led the Pirates in batting last week with an even .500 average (4-for-8). In Seton Hall’s Sunday doubleheader sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson, Hood went 2-for-3 with a double and a team-best two RBIs in game one and a perfect 2-for-2 with a double, sac fly and three RBI in the 5-4 victory.
Matt Warkentin, Xavier, Jr., 1B (Leamington, Ontario)
In a 2-2 week, Warkentin hit .579 (11-for-19) with five RBI, five runs scored, a double and a home run with .789 slugging and a .600 on-base percentage. In league action, a 1-2 weekend against Georgetown, Warkentin hit .462 (6-for-13). In the 6-2 win over Georgetown, he went 2-for-5 with an RBI single.
