NEW YORK – Almost halfway through the league season, Denver leads the BIG EAST standings as the only unbeaten conference team at 2-0, marking a 22-6 victory at Villanova on Friday in a Top 10 match up. On Saturday, Marquette pulled out another overtime victory, the third of the year, this time 11-10 at St. John’s. Marquette is 2-1 in the BIG EAST standings. In Washington, D.C., Georgetown ended a three-game losing streak with an 8-4 win over Providence. The Hoyas are 1-2 in conference action.
 
In the middle of the conference standings, Villanova and Providence are 1-1. St. John’s is 0-2.
 
No. 4 DENVER 22, No. 7 VILLANOVA 6
Denver scored 18 goals in the first half of the Friday contest at Villanova, finishing the game with a 22-6 BIG EAST road victory. Denver’s Trevor Baptiste won 27 faceoffs and as a team the Pioneers picked up 31 ground balls. Sophomore attacker Ethan Walker scored eight goals on his own and added an assist. Walker tied the BIG EAST’s single-game goal record, which was set by Villanova’s Jack Curran in 2017. Walker’s eight goals were on 11 shots. Austin French added a career-high six points with three goals and three assists. For Villanova, Connor Kirst and Christian Cucccinello scored two goals each.

MARQUETTE 11, ST. JOHN’S 10 (OT)
Marquette’s John Wagner scored his fourth game-winner of the year as scored unassisted in the last 32 seconds of the first overtime to give Marquette the 11-10 victory. Wagner finished the game with a hat trick. Golden Eagle Jack Zerrillo had a hat trick with an assist and a pair of ground balls. Cole Blazer made a season-high 16 saves in the net, while Zachary Melillo went 18-of-24 at the dot. For St. John’s, Jason DeBenedictis struck for a trio of goals, all coming in the second half, for his team-leading sixth hat trick of the season for the Red Storm. The senior also added an assist, collected two groundballs, and fired eight shots. Matt Hanley was also sharp in net for St. John’s with 11 saves. St. John’s led 10-8 with 8:36 remaining in the final period. At the end of the third period, the score was tied at eight.

GEORGETOWN 8, PROVIDENCE 4
Georgetown got back in the win column with the 8-4 conference win at home against Providence. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Hoyas. Jake Carraway led the Hoyas with four goals while Craig Berge added a goal and two assists. Daniel Bucaro chipped in three assists. Defensively, Nick Marrocco led the Hoyas with a 12-save performance in goal, with six saves in the third quarter. In the second half, Georgetown scored four goals to Providence’s one. For the Friars, four different players scored a goal. Brendan Kearns had a goal and an assist.
