#BIGEASTbase Championship Continues With Friday Doubleheader
MASON, Ohio – Day two of the 2018 BIG EAST Baseball Championship Presented by Jeep gets underway on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. ET with the first elimination game of the tournament which pits No. 2 Seton Hall against No. 4 Georgetown. No. 1 seed St. John’s will play No. 3 seed Butler in the second game of the doubleheader played at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio, home to the Cincinnati Spikes club.
Both games will air on the BIG EAST Digital Network Presented by SoFi.
Matt Schumacker and John Fanta will be on the call in game one; with Mike Schmaltz and Paul Fritschner in the dugouts. For the second game, Schmaltz and Fritschner will be on the call with Fanta and Schumacker on the sidelines.
The winner of the double elimination tournament will receive the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship field.
In Thursday’s opening round, St. John’s defeated Georgetown, 5-2 , to advance to the winners’ bracket for the first time since 2015. Butler won its first BIG EAST postseason game, 2-1, in 13 innings, the second-longest game in the 33 year history of the BIG EAST Championship.

Less than a week ago these two teams played a Saturday doubleheader to end the regular season. Seton Hall won both games of the doubleheader, which was played at a neutral site location, Johns Hopkins’ Babb Field, due to a flooded Georgetown facility. Seton Hall won 5-3, 12-1. The pitching matchup for the day will pit BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year, Seton Hall’s Ricky DeVito against Georgetown’s Jeremiah Burke. DeVito is 5-2 with a 1.33 ERA for the year. Burke is 3-1 with a 1.91 ERA. The afternoon game is the first elimination game of the tournament. Loser goes home, winner advances to play the loser of St. John’s/Butler.

Butler won its first BIG EAST tournament game yesterday, 2-1 in 13 innings against Seton Hall; it’s first postseason win since 2009. St. John’s won the first game of yesterday’s doubleheader, 5-2 over Georgetown as the Red Storm won its 51st BIG EAST tournament game. These teams last met in Queens on the last weekend of the regular season, less than a week ago, same as Georgetown and Seton Hall. St. John’s won the first game 4-2, but Butler tied the series the next day, 3-0 shutting out the Red Storm and clinching the tournament bid. St. John’s won the series in the second game of the Friday doubleheader, 3-1. Butler will be throwing Sam Hubbe, who has a 1-1 record in seven games started and a 2.22 ERA. St. John’s will be starting Kevin Magee who is 5-3 in 12 starts with a 2.41 ERA.
