QUEENS, N.Y. – After winning its league record ninth BIG EAST Championship, the St. John's baseball team will begin its Road to Omaha at the Clemson Regional.

The third-seeded Johnnies will open regional action on Friday with a 12 p.m. matchup against second-seeded Vanderbilt.  The contest will be televised on the SEC Network.

This year’s Clemson Regional bears a striking resemblance to last year’s as seeds 1-3 are identical.  The only difference comes in the four seed, where Morehead State replaces UNCG.

Entering the regional with a record of 39-15 and an RPI of 27, St. John’s will face the Commodores (31-25) in the opener for the second-straight year.  Last season, the Red Storm jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth before Vanderbilt mounted a comeback.

2018 marks the program's 37th NCAA Tournament appearance, tied for eighth most in college baseball history with Oklahoma and Southern California.

The Johnnies have now made the NCAA Tournament in 10 of the last 15 seasons and 11 times overall under the guidance of Head Coach Ed Blankmeyer

The Red Storm heads to Clemson on the heels of its ninth BIG EAST Championship in program history. No current member of the conference has won more than three. The Johnnies also claimed their ninth BIG EAST Regular Season Title, another league record.

Nine members of the Red Storm earned all-conference distinction at the conclusion of the regular season, led by BIG EAST Player of the Year John Valente.  Blankmeyer also led the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year for a league-record eighth time.
