#BIGEASTwsoc Conference Openers All Decided In Shutout Fashion
No. 10 Georgetown, Butler, Creighton, Providence and DePaul all win league debuts with clean sheets.
NEW YORK – All 10 BIG EAST women’s soccer squads played their league lid lifters this weekend, with all five matches decided in shutout fashion, while the road team was victorious in four of five tilts. Creighton was the lone team to defend its home turf as the Bluejays blanked Xavier, 1-0, on Sunday, while No. 10 Georgetown, Butler, Providence and Butler all won on the road to pick up the first three points up for grabs in the BIG EAST season.
Providence 2, Villanova 0
The Friars scored a pair of second-half goals, including Hanna McNulty’s seventh on the season, as Providence (7-2-1, 1-0-0) picked up a road win on Saturday in both teams’ BIG EAST openers. The host Wildcats outshot PC 17-11 and held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks, but only three of those 17 strikes landed on target and Shelby Hogan denied all of them. Bri Austin had three shots for Villanova (6-4-0, 0-1-0), while Rebecca Gartner made two saves.

DePaul 3, Seton Hall 0
Franny Cerny scored two goals to bump her season total to six as the Blue Demons picked up a win in their BIG EAST opener at Seton Hall (2-4-4, 0-1-0) on Saturday. Madeline Frick capped off the scoring in the 84
th minute as DePaul (5-3-2, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) outshot Seton Hall 15-7 and held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Mollie Eriksson had three saves in the shutout victory, her fourth clean sheet of the year. Cerny finished with a game-high six shots. Anna MacLean had five saves for The Hall, while Eva Gonzalez had two shots.

No. 10 Georgetown 3, St. John’s 0
Caitlin Farrell had two goals to jump into a three-way tie for the BIG EAST lead with seven on the season, while Arielle Schechtman made six saves for her league-best sixth clean sheet of the year as the nationally ranked and unbeaten Hoyas (8-0-2, 1-0-0) won in Queens on Sunday. Farrell scored what would be the game winner in the 39
th minute before Carson Nizialek added a penalty kick insurance score just over five minutes later. Farrell closed out the scoring in the 80
th minute. Meredith Reinhardt made three saves for the Red Storm (4-6-0, 0-1-0), while Zsani Kajan and Maia Cabrera tied for the team high with three shots apiece.

Butler 1, Marquette 0
Anja Savich notched her second game winner of the season as the Bulldogs scored a road win at Valley Fields on Sunday. The match was as tight as they come as Butler (7-3-0, 1-0-0) held a narrow 11-10 advantage in shots and 3-1 lead in corner kicks. Maddy Henry made three saves for Marquette (2-7-1, 0-1-0), while Hannah Luedtke and Leonie Doege combined for three tops for Butler. Savich scored in the 34
th minute before Marquette turned up the pressure in the second half to outshoot the Bulldogs 8-4 after Butler owned a 7-2 lead in the first period.

Creighton 1, Xavier 0
Taryn Jakubowski nudged the game-winning goal past Xavier keeper Toni Bizzarro in the 86th minute to give Creighton (4-5-0, 1-0-0) a 1-0 win over the Musketeers on Sunday. Katie Sullivan made eight saves in the shutout, her third of the season. Bizzarro finished with five stops. Xavier (6-5-0, 0-1-0) outshot Creighton 23-13, including 13-6 over the final 45 minutes. XU’s Sam Dewey led all players with seven shots. In the final five minutes the Musketeers managed two corners and two shots, but Creighton's defense completed the shutout to secure the win.
